what if i go see my sweety in may/june ??

Hello all,

Since i didn't got the job (for wich i got 2 interviews...grmf) (most probably because i wasn't available for the whole project anyway) I am very happy that i will be able to move with my sweet in june :P (and pissed because of my ego but if we take everything in consideration it's just a good news)

Now i will be in montreal for the whole month of may most probably doing nothing or not much (out from going more in debts) and i was thinking about joining my sweet up till the interview then we would fly back together in Montreal, go to the interview, some party from my school, organizing the move and fly back with the K1.

What are the chances they will refuse me at the border ? i guess my name should have some mention attached with the visa in process or something, isn't it ?

Hard to say. Some people get hassled and others get nothing. Only thing that I can think of is to take as much documentation with you showing proof of ties to Canada or you might end up on Rue de Caca (OK it's not that bad, just annoying). :crying:

i have like.... an empty bank account and a few cellphone bills.... sound bad huh ?

I am flying to Florida every month to visit my girlfriend and I've never had a problem at the US customs so far (knock on wood). However I make sure to always pack a letter from my landlord, my latest pay slips, bank statements, copy of my I-129 petition, NOA2, etc....

I think you shouldn't have any problem! Just take as many documents showing proofs to Canada as you can + your K1 file. I never had to use them so far but as they say it's better to be prepared than to be sorry....

Honestly, it is a game of chance. There are tons of people who have had no problem. Unfortunately, my now hubster and I did have a problem once. He was denied due to lack of ties and the guard told him that he could not visit during the K-1 process. That is not true, but it really is up to each guard's interpretation. (BTW, he was able to visit later on and it worked out fine. The guard that time saw no problem with visiting).

I agree to take everything you can to show proof of ties. One thing that might really help is also to show the return ticket to Canada. However, I would also make sure when you book a plane ticket, that it is easily exchangeable or refundable.

That rocks!!! I definitely say, go for it, but be prepared that you might be refused (hopefully not though ... I will cross fingers for you!)

I traveled monthly to DC, my adice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3)keep ur response short and to the point, dont tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5)pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isnt going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied,that is if ur polite and didnt lie! Refer to #1
