Hello,

I have all the DS-230 documents gathered translated and in an envelope ready to send. All I am waiting on is the cover letter. I am going to create that using the short cuts but have a quick question about the barcode......

When making the barcode do you include the BGT with the case number or just the number by itself?

Thanks

Brad

A question of this topic. If you paid online, can you print out the cover letter? Also, with the online payment system, can the NVC process be done in 1.5 month? Am I understaing this correctly that you can pay IV fee bill, print out cover sheet, and email the DS230 package instead of the old process of waiting for IV visa fee bill to arrive, pay it, wait for the system to generate 230 package and then mail the ds 230 package?

If you pay the AOS fee bill and the IV fee bill online, you can print out the cover sheets for them online. If you do one via mail, then you can't print the cover sheet for that one online. It looks like with the online system that the time spent in NVC processing is significantly reduced. It's hard to tell exactly since no one has their case completed yet who has used the online system. I would say 2 months seems believable, maybe 1.5 if you're lucky!

You print off the cover sheet for the DS-230 after your IV bill payment is accepted. On the receipt screen in the online payment system is a link to instructions for the DS-230 where you can print the form and pull up embassy/consulate specific information which may apply to your case. You then mail the cover sheet, DS-230 and supporting documents to the NVC. That's it!

okay. thanks. I guess then the process is very simplified. I guess the biggest time gaps now at NVC is in getting the case number assigned and generating DS3032. Is the IV fee bill available immediately following acceptance of choice of agent form or is there still time delay between NVC accepting the form and generating the IV bill. It just looked like 1.5 might be possible based on rough estimate.

-2 weeks - case number assigned

-1 week - between case number assingment and ds3032/AOS bill generation

-1 week - choice agent email confirmation

-2 week - rough estimate to pay AOS fee, IV fee online and printout online coversheet, mail the package if you have everythig ready.

Don't forget after that you have to wait for them to review your I-864 and DS-230 which could take another week or so. Then the wait for case complete which I think has been running about 2 weeks after DS-230 has been entered. Then add on how ever much time it takes from case complete to send it to the embassy.

Hi everyone, I've got another barcode question here about ds 230. Do you print out the barcode sheet and send it along with form ds 230? Or you just cut out the barcode (from the printed sheet) and paste it on the rectangular empty box on the top left of ds 230. This barcode thing is adding up to my confusion as NVC flowchart is already complicated as it is.

Thanks alot Bahaynamin! I have another question please... and I hope you bear with me...

So while waiting for our petition to be approved and transferred to NVC (assuming the outcome is positive), will there be a problem if I fill out and sign the ds 230 and send it to him early on? Since he is the one paying the bills, he's the only one capable of acquiring the barcode coversheet. Am I understanding it right?

I was reading a lot of topics about this and I read somewhere that he's supposed to send me a document for me to sign. Will the document still be valid if it was only scanned and sent via email? I really want to make sure about this barcode thing because I am not confident doing the jame's barcode shortcuts.

Thanks for helping me out. I hope I was able to express my thoughts well...because I am confused enough.

There is will be another step - sending DS-3032 before DS-230 can be sent. This DS-3032 is nominating your US spouse to receive the DS-230 correspondence (this is the one you are talking about and an email can be sent - see the link below) and act on behalf of you (foreign spouse).

Yes, it is good to send your USC a couple of blank and filled in DS-230s. Let him fill the date at the time of submission.

The cover page with bar code can be printed from the payment web site after fee payments are made during the process at NVC (after NVC Case number is received).
