Abbas had the Affidavit of Support from my mom as Joint Sponsor. Half of her income is social security retirement benefits.

When Abbas gave the Joint Sponsor Affidavit of Support, the Consulate officer said my mom's income was insufficient. #######? It was $30,000.00 for 2006 ($15,000 being SS).

I thought Social Security retirement is not a means tested benefit...So why did they give Abbas a hard time about it?

Anyway, I was prepared for this...So I fedexed Abbas a new Affidavit of Support by me, primary sponsor, with my 2007 income. This is what saved our case.

You can imagine last week with taxes due (filing jointly applying for ITIN number -a whole other headache) and then trying to get a second affidavit of support out by Wednesday....that it was hectic...

Smart girl!

'Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Chardonnay in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming 'WOO HOO, What a Ride'
