I have never been - I would like very much a nice tour of india, but the timing of this trip will not allow it, unfortunately. My schedule as it currently stands only allows for a few extra personal days. What would one do if they only had 48 hours? Any tips gladly received!

Personally, I like Haji Ali Mosque and Chowpatty. If you go to the mosque cover up though.

I'm supposed to go to Mumbai for work some time this year - will it completely suck? I will have maybe a few days to sightsee.

Kavi is so cute!

Most of the Americans that I know who go to India for a short visit really don't like it.

Most of the Americans that I know who go to India for a longer visit, really start to like it.

For me, I loved it...but my other friends didn't care for it at all.

Buy a book about India before you go there, that will help a LOT...

PEACE!

Thanks for the tips, I will definitely have to read up.

I have travelled through the Middle East - I have a special dress for visiting mosques. :D

Sorry I can't be of much help since I haven't been to Mumbai.

I want to cuddle the cute baby!!!

And I want to go to India and backpack across the country!!!

I have heard amazing things about it, lots of my friends spent 3-4 months in India and my Mom used to go once a year to India, just to soak up the atmosphere. Plus my favourite food is Indian. Super spicy curries (L)

I had bought the Lonely Planet book on India before I went. It was helpful. The part about New Delhi I was more focused on. It said some tourists land in New Delhi and never leave the airport, and return back where they came from due to the chaos of landing there. LOL How comforting! But when we went, it wasn't as bad in the airport as I thought it would be. And I wasn't alone, a big plus.

For me Lonely Planet are the best travel guides. I have quite a collection actually! I especially like the city guides as they have great walking tours around the city.

Kavi is totally adorable! He looks like an old soul - those eyes hold a lot of wisdom!

I am not a big fan of Mumbai, but I guess I am just a small town girl - Bangalore being a 'small town' of 8 million and growing! (A friend of mine was talking about his 'village' which I was shocked to find had over 600,000 residents!

Although it would be great to get out of the city, with just a few days for sightseeing, you will have more than enough to do in Mumbai itself! Chowpatty Beach and a drive around the Queen's Necklace road at night is nice... The Dhobi Ghats (giant outdoor clothes washing area) are interesting and definitely on the tourist agenda... Maybe a boat trip to the Caves a bit offshore... The Taj hotel and nearby arch, museums, etc. If you have not been to India before, I would recommend taking it easy on the street food, once your system has adjusted to things, it is ok, but man, it sucks to be down with 'Delhi Belly' if you are only there a few days! (Of course, my Dad got SICCCCCCCCCCCK at a 5 star hotel in Varanasi, so there is no completely safe place when it comes to food!)

When are you coming? The season/weather does play a part in how much you are going to feel like getting out and about, when I was in Mumbai in early Dec., it was still hot n muggy. When you get a chance, head to Kerala - gorgeous!! There are a lot of great places here, and I am already starting to miss it - and Ritesh and I have not even left yet! ;)

I was also shocked when Sujeet would talk of a village that had over 100,000 people in it! I imagine a village as so small. When we went to Agra, Sujeet said it was a small city. Well it has over a million people in it!! Not at all what I imagine as a small city. It was huge and crowded.

Ya, I remember when I went to Varanasi...I was told it was a small village also...but it was still 2 millionish people. In India though, that is considered small...and by Mumbai standards it is small! <haha>

Peace to all!

Agra was a nightmare!! I'm glad I went to the Taj Mahal - but once is enough! The touts, traffic, etc. are horrible there! I have only heard of Navi Mumbai, never been there - you hear more about Chandigarh being the first planned city here, a big feather in the cap!

My first couple of trips to Delhi were not too pleasant, but when I went back with R in Feb. I loved it! I tend to get along best with the Delhi-ites that I work with too - I like their 'attitude' - I guess that is a good thing because he is a true blue Dilly man!

Kerala and Goa are the two places where I have actually found a more peaceful lifestyle compared to anywhere in India, Tamil Nadu is gorgeous but has always been really hot n muggy there too... I will miss the year-round perfect weather here in Bangalore. (Except for right now, when it is almost 1AM and icky sticky!)

When I visited India we stayed in Chittaranjan Park in New Delhi, and Sujeet lived in Kalkaji (borders it). C. Park was a Bengali area. The people we encountered seemed pretty nice. Suj isn't Bengali though. He lived in New Delhi when we met but has lived all over India...Mumbai for school in teen years, Varanasi, Ranchi, New Delhi for college years+, and some other towns I'm sure.
