Getting a Chinese Visa

My fiancee finally got an interview date, but there is not much time to prepare to go to Vietnam. Why am posting this on the China forum? Let me explain. My fiancee and I have an internet friend in Guangzhou we've been talking with regularly for over a year. We would like to travel to Guangzhou to meet her in person.

However, my passport is currently at the Vietnamese consulate in San Francisco, getting a big ol' visa glued into it right now. I leave in less than 2 weeks. I don't feel comfortable sending my passport to some sort of visa service so soon before I have to leave in order to get a Chinese visa.

My question is: Is it possible for a U.S. Citizen to get a Chinese tourist visa at the Chinese embassy in Hanoi (same place my fiancee as a Vietnamese citizen would get one)? If so, I think that is what I will do. If not, I guess this meeting will have to wait until a later time.

Duh! That's why I rely on you VJ people. I never thought about calling the U.S. Chinese Embassy. Surely they would know. Sounds like it is possible, though, from reading the thread in Mark's link. Thanks, guys!

Yes, you can get a visa to enter China from any Chinese Consulate in any country, even with a US passport. It's done all the time.
