Police Clearance Certificate in Gujarat India

My comment/tips applies only for cases whose beneficiary living in Gujarat, INDIA and who has to get PCC from Ahmedabad passport office.

I sent my wife DS-230 cover letter from James's shortcut as soon as I got real NVC file #. I noticed that in Gujarat most police stations and passport office refer to as "BMB Number". Also, I printed all paperwork in US in letter size, as most people in India use A4 size and sent to India via regular mail. When employees at police station and passport pick up paper they seems to notice size of paper and don't usually ask any further questions as they assumed that paper really came from US. I also noticed that they did not care about NOA2 as it did not have NVC case # printed in it. Still it took more than a month to get PCC from District police station and Passport office.

Having noticed this pattern I advised one of my relative who was also going thorough CR1 process to send DS-230 cover letter printed with fake BMB# and was able to successfully get PCC from district police station and Ahmedabad passport office. However, if you apply too early before your approval then you can have big problem getting PCC again as PCC will expire in 6 months, and you need to have valid PCC at the time of your Interview. It takes estimated 2 months after your case completes at NVC to get Interview at Mumbai consulate.

Yes. We were able to get it. Usually, the passport office asks for the approval letter. I think people need to present their DS-230 (IV) barcode sheet which has the BMB #. Someone was able to get the PCC using the fake letter that was generated from bogus BMB #. You can try now but don't have your hopes high.

If you are not able to get it now as you do not have the approval, don't worry. The passport office service is fast - usually takes less than 1 week to get PCC. Its only the police commissioner's office that takes some time.

Siyaram,

Do passport office write your BMB# on PCC or application?

thanks!

My wife was able to get PCC from Valsad (local district) and Surat (Passport Office) without NOA2 or NVC case number. Things in India as unpredictable as usual :) My wife simply showed the NOA1 and the actual I-130 application...they bought it!

CJ,

That's nice! My wife went to ahmedabad passport office 2 times already and now they are saying they want to see orignal I-130 reciept to be able to issue PCC. Does passport office pcc and district police pcc has same information? Do you have to put any kind of case information on passport office application?

Thanks!

They don't write Case # or receipt numbers on PCC. If I remember it correctly, it does say USA on PCC (I can't recall exactly). You should be able to get the PCC from commissioner's office. They will give you hard time but they don't require any proof. For passport office, take I-130 NOA1 and also keep Packet 4 checklist to show that PCC is required for submission. Give it a try again. If they don't give you, its OK as once your visa gets approved, show DS-230 cover letter and you should be able to get it. That will only delay about 5 to 10 days max.

Just thought I would share my experience in trying to get a PCC from the Ahmedabad Passport Office.

My wife went there first time with the NOA2 and was not able to get it. They are asking for the interview letter. She tried to explain to them that we need to submit the PCC in order to get the interview letter, but that didn't work.

I asked NVC to send us a letter saying that we need PCC and we went there again late Dec with the DS-230 coversheet and still they would not give it to us. They showed us a letter from the Mumbai Consulate to the Ahmedabad passport office that they should not issue PCCs unless presented with the interview letter.

So at this point, we have no PCC and I sent everything except the PCC to NVC. I talked to the NVC on the phone who explained that they are trying to get an OK from the Mumbai Consulate to process cases without this PCC and just asked me to call back in a few days to see if the Mumbai consulate is ok with that.

Anybody else having tough time?

Same here. I will submit ds230 and documents without passport office pcc. For some reason passport office in ahmedabad are the only whos giving hard time and asking for interview letter. And about the letter from mumbai consulate to passport office thats all BS, because when my went to passport office with e-mail from mumbai consulate, they said we can not issue pcc not matter who says it. They basically said F***k mumbai consulate. So, I am planning to call delhi office to complain abt there behavior. Let see what happens. at the end yes, I will send NVC docs without passport office pcc, but planning to write letter explaning what they are saying and notarzing lets see if they accept it.

changing passport will take another month and half, plus i think you will still need to get pcc from passport office if passport is less then 6 months old. Not sure, but others can confirm. My best advice to you is try to get the interview date for k3 as soon as possible and use that interview letter to obtain pcc. NVC will not process your case until they have both pcc.

Good luck!
