I am not sure which form your wife needs to fill out but if she goes to district police station in ahmedabad they will tell her what she will need in order to get pcc. local police station pcc process is very long, so tell your wife to bribe a little to get it done faster.

P.S. wife got local police station pcc in 2 days with little bribe ;) , now waiting for passport office pcc to come in mail on thursday.

Thanks waithatter, she went to the local police station and they told her 2-3 days but they wanted to see the NOA2 with her name on it before they would start the process. So I'm waiting for the hardcopy in the mail.

It has been frustrating experience for many people with regards to getting police clearance certificate from passport office while getting green card. My parents just went through this procedure. Here is what needs to be done to get yourself PCC from passport office in ahmedabad.

- Take Local PCC from police station near you. This will come in local language so convert it english.

- Take the PCC to the local collector's office in your city. They will stamp it & give it in sealed envelope ( may ask 50rs. for it).

- Take the sealed envelope to the Gandhinagar( ( G office ) - GED office) to be stamped again.

Now you are ready to go to Passport office in Ahmedabad. You should take following:

- Application form for PCC application (can be downloaded on site or buy there for 5 rs.)

- Keep 3 pictures

- Take the copy Letter from NVC showing your BMB number. (THIS IS MUST SINCE YOU DON'T HAVE INVITATION)

- Take NVC letter requesting PCC. (This requirement is now waived since NVC understands the ####### indian passport office gives to indians !. indian passport office is full of people hired w/o merit on reservations!!)

- Write a simple application letter if possible requesting PCC from passport office

- copy of police certification from local office

- original passport

Reach the office before 12:30 or you will be out of luck. Pay 300Rs. and they will take your picture and give you Receipt. They will take your passport. YOU MUST SAVE THE RECEIPT LIKE A MILLION DOLLAR - THIS IS THE ONLY PROOF YOU GET FROM PASSPORT OFFICE!.

Once submitted you wait for all the paper work back from passport office. I don't know how long it take.....

Hope this will help.........

Dude

Getting PCC before the interview letter is hit or miss, meaning that sometimes you can getaway with showing just NOA2 letter (they think it's same in some cases, I guess it depends on the person in the office). And sometimes they ask for real interview letter.

You can try to get it with NOA2.

My wife just got the CR1 visa. We did not add my name (for spouse) in her passport. The ppl at the Passport office made her add my name.

But her middle name is still same.

I don't think the US Embassy will bug you for the spouse name in the passport.

One more thing. I have a friend who is a guy. He did not change his name nor did he add her wife's name as spouse in his passport, and he did not have any issue.

Hope this helps you.

Hey, sorry for answering so late. I wanted to get the PCC because don't she need to send PCC with DS-230 documents?

This is what happened:

My wife had to get a new passport because there was a name error in her father's name. So she recieved her new passport last week.

She also submitted the application for the Regional PCC last friday. They said, it would take 15 to 20 days or less.

She submitted NOA1 and NOA2, and the AOS and IV fee reciept.

Let's see what happens.

Question:

I know their requrement is to send original birth certificate and original marriage certificate. Can she just send a noterized copy of both or she needs to make duplicatesif she doesn't want to send originals?

Just curious because she is little worried about documents getting lost. What's your opinion?

Also, she doesn't need District PCC right because her passport is new and is not 6 months old?

What did your wife send with DS-230?

You have to send in a PCC with the DS-230. I sent in local pcc for my wife and stated on the cover sheet that Passport PCC will be provided at time of interview and they were OK with that.

Also you HAVE to send in originals or certified copies. Certified Copies are not the same as true copies. You can go to the issuing entity to get a certified copy of the birth certificate and marriage certificate.

I applied for the local PCC from Calcutta. They just wanted passport size pictures, a form, an application cover letter and Rs. 300 or thereabouts. A copy of my passport, a copy of my school leaving certificate and a copy of my birth certificate. I stated it was for immigration purposes but they didn't ask for any interview letter or NOA2 copy. Not yet, at least. They accepted it about a week ago.

Just for someone's future reference: If you need a local PCC go to Bhavani Bhavan near New Alipore. There you will need to present an application letter and they will give you a form to fill out.
