Marrying in Phil after having visa in hand ?

Seems risky to me, if they should get wind of it at POE.

And than there the legal end of it. Getting married in the states afterwards as well.

Which of the two marriages is concidered to be legal in the states, if done in this order?

The original plan was to wait until we return to Phil. and than have small ceremony for Zen's family.

Any input would be helpful, thanks

If you feel its risky then dont do it. The second marriage in the Philippines can wait. Your priority now is getting her here.

Just a thought.

that's too risky and its commiting visa fraud if you're under K1... my family especially my grandma wanted me to get married by my aunt whose a judge and saying its just a "secret marriage" with just family... i told her i cant commit that risk knowing i am under oath per se that i am not married and wont get married till i got my visa and be married the "U.S" only (pertaining my visa is a fiancee visa)... i hope she'll understand and i know she will knowing she cant risk that ceremony and in the end she'll be ban in the US for commiting a fraud (not sure how long, if being found)... u can change K3 if you'll pursue getting married in phil... its both your choice and this is just my opinion... God bless!!!

they're right... sounds too risky.

in my case, we will get married in the US first...Then after getting the greencard (or whatever it is that will allow me to travel back to the phil), we will return to here in the philippines for the church wedding.

it may be safer to do that.

goodluck to you! :luv:

My aunt and her hubby had their wedding here in phils before she had her interview in embassy for K1 visa. Their wedding Cert is "Post-date", and it was only a garden wedding, their lawyer said it was ok, secret marriage? iam not really sure how it works but too risky...... they just had their civil wedding in hawaii last month....

Sure you can get married, Then you will just have to cancel the K-1 and reapply for CR-1. That will be legal then. But if you dont want to do that, then you can just get married in the USA and then when time and money can do it, Get married in the Philippines.

For what its worth, I have two friends (who used to be members here in VJ) who are now here in US - one in FL and the other in CA - who got married in the Philippines once they got their visa. The wedding is just for formality but not registered in our marriage indices and no marriage certificate. They didn't sign any papers, nothing at all. It's just to make the families and friends experience being part of the wedding.

I am saying this not to encourage you that you can do the same, but to let you know that it is possible. You just got to be careful.

IMHO, I wouldn't want to risk anything... I so wanted to have a wedding in the PI but thought, heck, we can always do that someday.

My fiancee is not in the U.S. yet but will be sometime this summer. We are returning Xmas 2010 and we will do the Catholic wedding for her family.

I agree with everyone. looks like you got it already.

Just to add something about your marriage question though.

Yes, either marriage would be legal in the states.

If you get married in the PI after Visa in hand, the marriage would be legal in the states. Which is exactly why her K1 Fiance visa, would then be considered immigration fraud.

If you get married in the states, then eveything is kosher. The marriage and her immigration status.

You waited all this time and now that the end is in sight, you want to commit visa fraud? Please don't do that.

Someone else on here just said they other day they were denied the visa because someone at the embassy saw some pictures of just what you are proposing. How would you feel if you were turned away at the airport?

You can always go back and do it for Phil. family.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip

I don't know if Jomo's girl was refering to this: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=120704

they were denied at the embassy interview becoz they had a religious wedding ceremony that was not even registered.

There are a lot of people who think just a ritual will do, it could be but even a ritual ceremony is risky, especially if you include the pictures as proof of ongoing relationship or proof of engagement.

Good luck Zen Den. My wife wanted us to be married in the PI. I told her that if we get married there, we'd be separated for a loooong time. She said OK. She was fine with it. LOL.
