Unemployment benefits

Hi all,

I lost my job last month, they just let me go, now can i claim unemployment or not? i am on conditional 2 year GC which expires in Dec and for which i will apply for a 10 yr GC in Sep. I am in NY state, queens, and was employed since Oct 06 after i recd my employment card?

any suggestions are welcome???

As long as the benefit is NOT a means tested one, your sponsor wont be responsible to repay the government for it. I-864 makes the sponsor responsible to repay any means tested benefits.

Means Tested Benefits. Tends to be government benefit like Welfare.

Unemployment is a temporary benefit paid out from insurance paid for by employers.

You are fine to claim unemployment conpensation, since you are a permanent resident.
