ABCNews’ Mary Bruce Reports: Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is actively courting the Vice Presidential nomination, according to Republican Strategist Dan Senor. “Condi Rice has been actively, actually in recent weeks, campaigning for this,” Senor said this morning on “This Week with George Stephanopoulos.”

According to Senor, Rice has been cozying up to the Republican elite. “There's this ritual in Washington, the Americans for Tax Reform, which is headed by Grover Norquist, he holds a weekly meeting of conservative leaders, about 100, 150 people, sort of inside, chattering, class types,” Senor explained. “They all typically get briefings from political conservative leaders. Ten days ago, they had an interesting visit. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. The first time a Secretary of State has visited the Wednesday Meeting.”

Senor explained that Rice’s history in public office would make her a prime candidate, especially in light of Senator John McCain’s emphasis on experience throughout his campaign. “What the McCain campaign has to consider is whether or not they want to pick a total outsider, a fresh face, someone a lot younger than him, a governor who people aren't that familiar with. The challenge they're realizing is that they'll have to have to spend 30-45 days, which they won't have at that point, educating the American public about who this person is,” Senor said. “The other category is someone who people instantly say, the second they see that announcement, I get it, that person could be president tomorrow. Condi Rice is an option.”

Rice Eyeing Ticket? That’s News to McCain

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Is Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice campaigning to be John McCain’s running mate? If so, Mr. McCain, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, said on Sunday that he had not noticed.

“I missed those signals,” Mr. McCain told reporters on his campaign plane en route to Kansas City.

Nonetheless, Mr. McCain took a few moments to compliment Ms. Rice. “I think she’s a great American, I think there’s very little that I can say that isn’t anything but the utmost praise for a great American citizen, who served as a role model to so many millions of people in this country and around the world,” Mr. McCain said, adding that “her overall record is very, very meritorious."

I think that McCain and Rice would have a tough sell to the independants and the cross-over voters to make them believe that she wasn't selected to warp the Women/Black vote against either Democratic contender.

Rice has credentials but I don't think any Republican or Democrat actual sees her as a President... also I agree that even republicans want someone seperated from the Bush administration.

He cannot be that dumb to use anyone associated with GWB admin..

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

You wouldn't think so. But... He *has* asked Bush to campaign with him in the general election.

The only reason he is doing that is because hard-core republicans don't seem to like McCain. I know I would not want someone who wasted $600,000,000,000+ on a war the country cannot afford supporting me.

I dunno - he seems to be pretty consistent in his Hawkish support for 100 years in Iraq / $100 trillions dollars MUHAHAHAHA!. And all that.

Given that the Reps are looking for swing Democrats and independents to elect their candidate - accepting an endorsement from Bush probably isn't going to do much for him outside of the Republican party - or indeed from within, from those Reps who are less than satisfied with this president and his policies.

I see Rice and Powell as the two people in the bush administration who were the voice of common sense. Of course, the bushies ran powell off. If bush had listened to Rice, we wouldn't be where we are today.

She, apparently, is the brains of the operation. But, we all know that there are always two heads involved in decision making--the big head (intelligence) and the little head (impulses). the bush administration, without fail, always goes with what the little head thinks/wants.

I liked Powell a lot. He is a smart guy. Probably why he left..

Bush isn't too bad either but I think he wastes to much time listening to people who are obviously feeding him BS. Cheney though is too shifty for me. He is never to be seen. If I was an American I would want that guy out of office fast..

Does this mean McCain said no?

Rice Again Denies VP Aspirations

WASHINGTON (AP) - Condoleezza Rice has plans to head West after her time as secretary of State—not plans to be vice president.

She stressed Tuesday that she has no aspirations to join John McCain as his running mate on the Republican presidential ticket this fall.

...

Rice served as provost and taught as a professor at Stanford University. She said she'll be busy with her work at the State Department before returning to the campus.
