Hi all, I just have a few quick questions I hope somebody could answer for me.

My fiance in China just received an email stating that she will recieve package 3 within a week. Now, I need to sent her my affidivat of support. The problem is, I am college student with one more year to go and I have no income (only a few hundred dollars not worth mentioning). My brother agreed to also file an affidivat of support and makes about $125,000 a year. So here are the questions:

1) Do I also need to file an affidivat of support? I've read "yes" but I can't find anything from official sources.

2) Since I have no income (only income potential), will this be a problem for me?

3) I've read something about having a joint sponsor, which is what my brother agreed to be. I've also read something here about how I have to be the "primary" sponsor. Do I need to make a statment or something like that?

Thanks!

1) YES, you will be sending 2 I-134 forms one from you, and one from your co-sponsor.

2) NO, as long as Guangzhou is comfortable with your co-sponsor you wont have a problem.

3) With I-134 there is no such thing as a joint sponsor, what happens is the counselor officer will look at both I-134s and pick the one that can support the prospective immigrant. Later when you do adjust status, the I-864 used has provisions for joint-sponsor.

I Highly recommend you join and ask questions on "A Candle for Love" that site's resources specialize in the Guangzhou consulate and will prepare you for the difficult interview process there. The FAQ page there is second to none.

You may want to fill in your profile details you are dealing with China, NOT N/A, and your filed for K-1, NOT N/A.

we're in the same situation. i've probably already heard 15 people here say it isnt a problem, so i'm hoping they are right. my fiance filled in the I-134 with all zero's, his cousin is our co-sponsor, and filled one in too, with the evidence.

i'm just hoping that will do, but i might contact the embassy first to make sure...

Hey muaytb1,

I am in the EXACT same situation as you.

1. Yes, you HAVE to file an affadavit of support as well, or you cannot get the visa. It doesn't matter if you only make like 1,000USD/year. This is not an option, you must file.

2. No, from what I have heard, no. Like I mentioned, I have been stressing about this too, but as long as he makes above the criteria for supporting a household of however many dependents he has, you're all good. He must be able to support himself, any of his dependents (if he has any, such as children), and your fiance. He is WELL above this criteria, so don't worry about it.

3. YOU are the primary sponsor, your brother is the co-sponsor. I am not sure what you need to do about that, as each embassy is different, but you should be alright

I am a college student as well yet cannot find anyone to co-sign. I am hoping that my assets and my income which is just barley above the poverty line will cover. Hopefully it will all work out!
