Hi, I seem to be a bit confused. In the instruction I cannot find anywhere where it says the copies of the Marriage Certificate (that i send with my I-130 and AOS packet) need to be "certified". However I notice on VJ a lot of people have had the copies certified?

I am sending mine out next week and I really really would like any advice on this?

Thank you all so much!

OH and YEAH for spring weather!

Take a photocopy of your Certified marriage certificate (the official one with the seal that you got when you registered your marriage) and include the photocopy with your AOS packet.... do not send the original.... you take all your original documents to your interview... you only need to send photocopies with the application....

USCIS no longer routinely requires submission of original documents or "certified copies." Instead, ordinary legible photocopies of such documents (including naturalization certificates and alien registration cards) will be acceptable for initial filing and approval of petitions and applications.

Yes, exactly.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip

In many states you apply for a Marriage License - once you get married you either send it (the License) in or hand carry it to the proper authority (in Texas it is the County Clerk's office) and have it recorded - this makes your marriage official and turns your License into a Marriage Certificate (some states will send/give you a separate Certificate that looks different than the license).

Thank you all! Yes mine is already recorded, we had civil ceremony and got it the day of. We are doing "Big wedding" later on in the year as my family lives all over the world (Literally)

I guess my question is if the Copy that I send with AOS need to be "certified"? AS in taking to get notarized or anything?

Txs so much

Nope, we just made a plain old photo copy of our marriage certificate, and sent that in with our AOS package, result "Approval without interview".

Bring the Original to your AOS interview, the interviewing officer may want to inspect it to confirm the copy.
