I agree totally - employers know very well they are supposed to check documents and many do NOT.

Those fake green cards that certain people reckon all illegals have are very pricey - or stolen so they immediately raise a red flag when used - or just really useless forgeries. I know that when i was in SoCal many many illegals, Brits/Canucks/Swedes and Germans (to name but a few, lol) were never asked for any ID at all, never mind a GC or an SS number.

(just FYI I didnt work myself cos 1.It was illegal and 2. I had a job in the UK with a high sec clearance - and good pay - no way I wanted to jepordise that with any illegal doings! lol)

The bottom line is that document fraud is rampant. Big Business such as Cargill, Tyson, etc., etc. fight tooth and nail to ensure there is no credible mechanisms in place to check employee eligibility. Ditto for tamperproof Social Security cards. All these things have been proposed as far back as 1986, but the joke is on us.

Undocumented workers? They have plenty of fake documents.

The fact is...Congress and the President are more worried about passing another amnesty lie than they are about truely fixing this mess.

Until they show the American public credible enforcement I am inclined to say...screw any amnesty. There should be no amnesty anyway, but why even consider it without any credible enforcement in place.

Congress and the President just want to repeat the lies and deceptions of 1986 and 1996. I repeat...do not be fooled by their lies. Money talks and bullsh*t walks. They haven't appropriated a red cent for credible enforcement.

Talk is cheap!

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

it just shows you are getting older and less idealistic

The alternative to getting old is not very appealing to me. Youth can be idealistic because they haven't had as many doses of reality as the veterans of life.

There is an old saying, "Live and learn."

And don't trust politicians trying to push policies that failed miserably 20 years ago. It's all about the rich getting richer at our expense. Amnesty coupled with sham enforcement is not in our best interests. And amnesty number 8 for illegal aliens is no solution. You would think that after 7 amnesties over 20 years that the retards in D.C. would figure out this doesn't stop illegal immigration...but they really don't want to. They just want you to think they do.

Live and learn!!! Live and learn!!!

I have to agree with you on the amnesty thing. They keep trying to convince the public and are doing a damned good job of it I might add, that they need to do this because the only reason companies are hiring illegal workers is that no legal workers will do the job. I disagree, they avoid the cost of legal wokers by hiring illegal workers as a source cheap labor with little or no accountability(unemployment insurance, workers comp insurance) or recourse. Granting amnesty to those working illegally will offer THEM legal working status, and raise the cost of employing them, making them useless to companies that were avoiding that in the first place.

There have been laws in effect since 1986 to prevent employers from doing this, but these laws have not been enforced. Instead of cracking down on those that create the demand for illegal workers and displeasing business our government appears to be attempting to pacify the people complaining by convincing them that those poor companies have had no choice but do this and amnesty will be the perfect remedy. And it's working!
