I need to transfer some money from the US to the UK. Its a small amount of money around $3000.

Has anyone used Custom House??

Or any other suggestions would be welcome.

I do need something that is easy to set up and possibly use again in the future.

Thanks

Yep, used them for the past few yrs, transferring $$$ from Canada to the USA as wel as from USA to Canada!!

Very easy to use, top notch customer service!! The office I talk to is in Victoria BC canada, walked by it many times when i resided there, lol Not sure if they handle all accounts!

Takes a bit to set up, but its not hard to do!! Its been awhile, but you submit your info online!! one has to send in proof of your ID. this can be down by snail mail, fax or if ya have a scanner, scan it and email it through their secure server! Too easy!! As wel lone has to send in ur banking info!! AND one has to do a quick phone interview, just to verify it is you. They call you, and the time they call is a window that you provide!

This process can take a day or two (at least in my case) but it was not difficult, and if one does have probs, they are a call (depending on time of course) or email away!!

They gave me a much better rate then the banks!! One can see the rate ur going to get, if ya dont like it, you just cancell the transaction,or ya hit REFRESH, and the rate may change, it may not,lol may be in ur favor or not, but keep in mind the changes are pretty small! And like I said, you can just cancel the transaction

If you do it EFT (electronically) it is FREE, but they do offer a wire service, but that costs $$. A $$$ transaction takes 3 or 4 business days (EFT) so it is not instantaneous, so one has to plan ahead.

I highly recommend them.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

They may start your transaction limit at a certain amount, but a simple phone call/email, and they will raise it for ya!

Oh, thanks for the bump. I hadn't seen this thread.

Ditto to what Flames said. Custom House is top notch. Same day wire transfers cost $20. 3-day electronic transfers are free. AWESOME service. Large amounts are handled by a personal broker. Smaller amounts are handled through their Vantage system. The advantage to transferring a large amount, initially, is that they will set you up with a better exchange rate for smaller amounts. I highly recommend them.
