Hey guys, as a lot of you know that I submitted my passport to the U.S embassy on the 28th of feb in Islamabad to get my visa stamped, it will probably take a week before I get it back. My question is can I go to the travel agent and buy or put the ticket on hold for next month with out my passport. Will my I.D work or do I have to have my passport in order to purchase the ticket :innocent: ? I heard the sooner you make your reservervation with the arilines the cheaper it is? Any input in this matter will be highly obliged.

My experience is that the airline will want your passport number and expiration date when you book the ticket. If you know these, then go ahead and book. As for booking early, hard to say. However as fuel prices are increasing, early is better than late - in general. Sometimes you can get good last minute deals but those make planning difficult.

Good luck!

Brian

You might want to check , British Airways, American Airlines, I think they offer the best rate. They did for me anyways when I flew to Pakistan from the US.

I don't know if it varies from airline to airline, but I didn't have a passport(was in the process of applying for a lost one) when I booked my flight to Vietnam. The only time it was mentioned by the airline was when I received my online itinerary and it stated at the bottom that any required documents, ie: passport, visa, were my responsiblility. I did have to show my passport at check in and boarding for identification purposes, but they never asked to see my visa. I had arranged for a Visa on Arrival. The way I see it, the airlines just want to sell you a ticket. Once they deliver you to your destination airport you are no longer their responsibilty.

As for advance purchase, I'd say definitely book as early as you can. I watched ticket prices for my exact same flight increase by $400 in a matter of weeks. I think the airlines set ticket prices according to how many seats are left, as the number of seats remaining decreases, the cost increases.

Just make sure there is no danger that anything you need might be delayed past your departure date. Good luck and have fun!

Thanks for all the info guys, btw I booked my flight today or acutally put it on hold for next month. I didn't pay any thing neither I showed them my passport. Actually the travel agent is the vendor of the company that I work for!

I got in one problem today, now I don't know if I should be worrying about it or not :innocent: When I submitted my passport to American Express they gave me a reciept which I didn't look at thoroughly when I got it. Today I was going through my wallet and read the whole thing. In the reciept (category section) it says B1 instead of K1. The consultant who was sitting at the counter made the mistake. Now I am thinking that the U.S embassy in Islo should be smart enough to figure that out but I think I am going to AX tomorrow any ways just to tell them how big of a idiots they are . Hope fully it won't cause in delays in my plan? What do you guys think?
