We didn't. We communicate by pointing at our privates and we know what to do.

Y'know...in light of this, I think communication is vastly overrated as a marital tool. We'd all be much better off if we just stopped talking and pointed to our privates.

sure sure :P

We mostly speak in Portuguese. Val has been stubborn in that respect but she is learning slowly. She also has a lot of Brasilian friends here that makes it hard for her to learn english. I talk to our sons in English because they picked up English like in weeks since they had to swim or drown in English in school. Val has started working outside of the house so that will help. She was babysitting and that didnt help.

Sometimes at work, especially on a Mondays, I feel like talking in Portuguese and that is weird.

10Yr GC arrived 07/02/09 - Naturalization is next

The drama begins - again!

And now the drama ends - they took the Green card . . .

It took me 2 years to get fluent in Telugu, while living in India taking care of the elderly (who knew no English). I read childnren's books and asked people to translate sentence by sentence, then studied it until I could read and understand on my own. Plus talking all day in Telugu with people helped the most!

Hubby has been struggling taking English classes for years, but only since arriving in USA (nearly 10 months ago) has he had practice in speaking. He's getting better and better. Right now he's at that middle stage - where he knows tons of words and grammar, but still has to ask me to repeat things twice, and people do the same when he talks. We still talk over 70% in Telugu at home, but are really trying to speak more English.

When Darren talks too fast, sometimes I have to stop him and ask for him to repeat himself...then he talks really slow...

But I have to do that too...me and my southern accent....

And, yes, I think his accent and vocabulary are dead sexy....
