My son and I came to live in the US mid 2007 ... on February 26 our 485's were approved. We will be filing our income taxes soon and the IRS advised that it would be quicker to get an SSN for my son than an ITIN # but the IRS couldn't tell me if he's eligible for one. Also, incase anyone was wondering the new stimulus rebate is available only for people with SSN#'s and not with ITIN #'s .......

Soooo ... my questing is .. when would I be able to get an SSN # for my 10 year old son?

Once your son has his greencard you can apply for a SSN for him...

Or once he has an EAD Lyn...can't remember if you applied for that for him since he's younger, right?

I am taking my 16 yr old in shortly for her SSN, although i may just wait for the GC since it was just approved as well.

Congratulations on your GC approval!

As soon as you have your GCs on hand, you can take your son to the SSA office and get him an SSN

Both people listed on a "married filing jointly" return must have valid SSNs to qualify for the payment — if only one has a valid SSN, neither can receive the payment.

If you get an I-551 stamp for him, that can me used if you don't feel like waiting for the I-551 card.

After you get him his EAD. My son is 14, once I got his EAD we applied for SSN and got it without a problem.
