Pay taxes but can't vote.

I just noticed the beautiful twist of a brit complaining about paying taxes in America and not being given a vote. History do change the woild.

Hmmm... there might be an irony there if the Brits were still Gung-Ho about colonialism and 19th century imperialism. Outside of the BNP or the National Front that isn't really the case anymore.

I really wasn't trying to imply anything. I just found it funny. I do hope some sort of American Rerevolution doesn't occur, though.

I dunno - we could probably do with losing the influence of some of those backward Bible fundamentalists.

I know a guy over in Texas and he was saying that during the last election, he and his wife left their church because ministers were at the pulpit Schilling for Bush.

America is #######, I don't want to live here, but my husband keeps me in shackles so I can't run away.

Some people pay good money for that sort of treatment.

America would be great if it wasn't full of Americans.

Well... that could be said about any country, really. Just replace "Americans" with some other nationality and it works fine too.

Is criticism aimed at states like California, particular liberal ridden San Francisco considered bashing America or have we seceded from America already?

Honestly, I don't know. What I can tell is that criticizing California for being "too liberal" is like making fun of Texas for being "too conservative." In other words, pretty foolish and just relying on stereotypes. ;)

I guess what I'm trying to say is how do we differentiate between bashing America and bashing elements within America? What qualifies as being a representation of what is America?

Well for the folks who trot out that extra serving of dog toffee - my guess: Everything except the parts that they hate (i.e. The Blue States).

I'm going to say optimism and a Big Mac a$$ (it has a special shape).

Great! Let's start a list of what IS America and what ISN'T

I'll just throw out some elements and we can decide by consensus....

Christianity - Does it represent America, yes or no?

Judaism - yes or no?

Coffee (the businesses who sell it but not the bean growers) - yes or no?

Health Insurance Companies - yes or no?

Big Macs?

Chinese New Year?

Muslims?
