Social Security Card before AOS?

Hey guys. Another question here. I haven't filed for my AoS yet (waiting on taxes for the funds), but my husband wants me to get my social security number so he can file his. The government website says:

The K-1 symbol indicates you are the fiancé of a U.S. citizen. As such, you are eligible for a Social Security number and for employment.

To apply for a Social Security number:

Complete an Application For A Social Security Card (Form SS-5); and

Show us documents proving:

Immigration status;

Work eligibility;

Age; and

Identity.

Take your application and original documents to your local Social Security office.

Since I haven't had my AoS yet, or filed for I-765, will I still be able to get it? The answer above implies I need to be able to work before they will issue me a number. Could I just take in my passport with my K-1 stamp and marriage certificate and still get issued one? I live in Florida, by the way. Any information is appreciated!

Your eligibility for an SSN as a K1 visa holder has nothing to do with filing for AOS/EAD. K1ers are work authorized for SSA's purposes upon entry into the US. Take your passport with the K1 visa and your valid I 94 into the SSA to get your number.

The general rule of thumb is to wait about 2 weeks after entering the US so that you give it enough time for them to electronically verify your immigration information.

Filed: AOS (apr) Country: Philippines
Timeline

A k-1 is eligible between day 1 and day 76 after entry. If you have been here longer than 76 days you are inelligble until EAD is approved

YMMV

fwaguy said what I was going to edit and say! LOL Looks like based on your timeline, you've left it too long now to get the SSN prior to your EAD; you'll have to wait now until you have your EAD before you can get your Social Security number.
