What is Packet 1 all about?

6 posts in this topic

I just got an e-mail from my fiancee in Japan saying that she received packet 1 from the embassy. Is this something that happens when our application is received by the embassy in Tokyo? Our case status hasn't been updated on the USCIS site since our NOA2 on Dec. 28. I checked the K1 flowchart, and it doesn't mention packet numbers and I can't do a search on the forums for 'packet 1'. Thanks in advance.

This is called Packet 3 on this board, typicaly it contains instructions, info about what you need to provide for I-134, a list of items needed, A DS-230 to fill and other forms.

Start at Step 3 here: http://tokyo.usembassy.gov/e/visa/tvisa-niv-k.html

Does this mean that our case status will no longer be updated on the USCIS site? That would be fine with me, since we are getting close to the end of this process.

once you get your NOA2 your case will go to the NVC and you will get a new casenumber,so no you cant track it on the internet anymore.

USCIS gives you updates only while it is in their hands, after NOA 2 it is sent to the Department of State (NVC and Consulate) DOS does not provide status info to USCIS, and DOS will assign a new DOS case number to the petition.

Sounds like it has gone through NVC and is now at the Embassy or Consulate.
