intent letter's date---does it matter?

Hi,

I had planned to start the process way back in september, but because i was sent back to europe for work, we had to postpone the application...

Now that I'm back in the USA, I'm going thru all the papers and I way back in sept my fiance had signed her letter of intent to marry me, and also, dated the letter sept 01 2007.

I could ask my fiance to send me a new letter, but it would take about 10 days to arrive, and I will have to leave the country in about 4 days, so i was trying to send this package out before I left, so i wondered if

1. I could cover the date on the 'old' letter, and make a photocopy, thus resulting in a letter that has no date

2. Have my fiance print out a new letter, scan it, and send it to me

3. Enclose the old letter as it is....

We are using the letter template from this site, and since is not officially specified they want the date on the letter, i figure that maybe is best to make the copy without the date....but i was also thinking---are they expecting an original document for the letter of intent, or does a xerox copy suffice?

any suggestions?

thanks in advance!

1 would be altering a document, a form of falsification. Don't do it.

2 We did this and USCIS had no problem with the scanned copy of letter of intent.

3 You can, I doubt that they will have a problem with it.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

Ooh harsh.

Here's my suggestion, I'd definately NOT tamper with the letter you have now. If I were you, I would:

1. send in the letter you have with the September date

2. have your fiance reprint the letter, resign and redate it, and scan that to you, and then you can send that in AS WELL

3. attach a note to both letters explaining the discrepancy of the dates, that your fiance scanned and emailed the new updated one to you, and you thought it'd be best to cover all bases

I honestly don't know if you have to have an original with the letters, but I think they want an original uncopied signature on like...everything.

Good luck

They do not accept photocopied signatures...you need originals.

Send the one in you have. Worst case scenario, you'll get an RFE.

Yep, they want originals on everything. I've seen people RFE'ed for not original signatures, but also plenty who have had no problems with photocopies. YuAndDan had a photocopied document, and I filed with a faxed copy of the G-325a without issue.

good luck!
