If you have enough cash in your personal checking account, then use a personal check. You can tell when USCIS chased the check, and most banks will give you a scan of the check, which you can normally get the case number of the back of.

we got money orders today, but we had to get one for $1,000 and one for $10. Should we just send a cheque? has anyone else successfully sent in 2 money orders or just 1?

I have successfully send more than two money orders, infact three. Personally I would advice you to use money orders in case they take more than 90days to cash the money order it will still be good unlike most cheques that expire within 90days. Anyway whichever one you feel comfortable with

We did money order simply because we are poor at managing money. I didn't want to risk going over by $1 and having USCIS cash it on that day and we lose the whole process after waiting X days for a receipt... just me tho.

I agree that sending a money order is a good way to go (you never know when USCIS will cash that check... but make sure you buy it from your bank and that you can easily track when it gets cashed. I used USPS money orders and was told it takes up to 18 weeks to track them and its kind of a pain.
