correcting an error on I129

I just wanted to share something I have been dealing with. In my eagerness to submit my I129 form I, admittedly, did not proof read it very well. There was an error with one of my answers. As soon as I realized this (naturally well after I had mailed the form) I called the 800 number to ask what I can do to fix this error. I was especially concerned seeing how far back the processing dates are in California Service Center and the last thing I wanted was for the whole thing to be returned and have to start over.

I finally got through to a very nice customer service person and they said once I got my receipt number I could send in a letter explaining the error, referencing my receipt number, and the paper work would be matched up and all would be good.

I got my receipt number and sent the letter. Shortly thereafter my letter was returned to me. A form letter was attached saying USCIS has a new tracking system "to ensure that customer inquiries are handled as effectively and as quickly as possible" and that I have to call the National Customer Service Center which "will track your inquiry with us to resolution"

I called the NCSC and after 44 minutes I got through to a live person. They had no idea what I was talking about but took my information. I asked if this was really what I should be doing and this person said if that is what the letter says then that is what I was suppose to do. Not the friendliest help but I felt that I had resolved this stupid issue.

Today I received an email stating "...no correction can be made at this time. All corrections will be made at the time of adjudication". OH MY GOD?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? I am so very early into all this process and this is the nature of the beast????

Does anyone have any words of wisdom to share.

Perhaps the lesson is to just sit back and wait. What else can I do? :help:

I just needed to get this off my chest. Thanks!

What kind of a mistake was it?

I would just wait it out and correct it when you can.

That's really all you can do since you have tried what you can to correct the mistake.

Best of luck to you!!!

Maybe it is best to wait to see if they catch whatever you were trying to correct. The worst thing would be an RFE, which sounds bad, but I've noticed that some poeple that get them are apporved pretty fast after they send back RFE. Not sure what to tell you, CSC seems so backed up you cannot get a good answer from anyone.

What is "RFE"?

The mistake was so stupid. The question was if I had filed for this or any other alien fiance before. I checked both the yes and the no box.

It means they will send you a letter stating they need some clarification or more evidence on something.

A minor issue and easy to correct. Just hang in there.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip

If they notice it, you will most like receive a RFE (Request for Evidence) meaning they will send you a letter or form to fix/clarify the error. The RFE we got only delayed us a couple of weeks so you should be okay

Hope the rest of the process goes smoothly for you!
