I like the way it appears the Brits are the only ones to leave alcohol out for Santa

Just had to call home, cos I was doing christmas cards (i know they'll be late, but I'm sending them anyway) and I couldn't remember the name of one of my cousins! Oh lord, I've been away from home a while.

Oh, that's so pretty, Pointy! BTW, thanks so much for meeting me for lunch -- the canteen may not be posh but it was great to escape for an hour or two.

It's all pickling all the time here in Burbank -- I'm making pickled eggs and onions tonight, pickled beets tomorrow. Oh yeah, I hate pickles but I am in the running for World's Most Awesome Wife ™ so I am making pickles. Blech. In more exciting news, I am also making mince pies tomorrow, a cherry pie on Xmas eve and raspberry sorbet on Xmas day itself. Plus a spiral ham (explained in much detail to Pointy today), Yorkshire puddings, peas, roast potatoes, stuffing and gravy. Phew.

My mom has 87 first cousins...so if you have as many as she does I wouldn't feel too bad for not remembering their names!

However, I only have 5 first cousins...you can certainly tell my mom was a baby boomer!

Your mom beats me! I only have 76 first cousins. I know all on my Mom's side by name (only 20) but on my Dad's I sometimes get a little mixed up with some of my older cousins. I know they are my cousin, but not necessarily their name.

I have no idea how many cousins I have, ummm, my dad's side is smaller just 7, my mum's side 17, so actually not that many, but the little girl I couldn't remember was one of 5 girls, Aisling, Sinead, Ailish, Siobhan, and the one I couldn't remember - Niamh. I could picture her, but couldn't for the life of me remember her name.

Is it totally f*cked up that I dreamt about roast potatoes last night? I was reading delia's recipe as I was going to bed, and I dreamt that I put them on to parboil forgot about them, and them they were falling apart as I was trying to roast them. weird.

It's pronounced 'Neeeve', wow 76 cousins - are there a lot of really big families?

My Dad is one of 16 siblings and my Mom is one of 7, which produced lots of cousins. What's funny to me is that on my Dad's side, when you add in the great grand kids and great-great grandkids, there are something like 265 of us in total. I definitely don't know all of them!

16 kids? egad

same parents for all of them? ie no second marriages?

we're very restrained in comparison to you lot... both parents one of four; I'm one of three; neither brother is married or has kids :D

The Very Secret Diary of Legolas Son of Weenus - by Cassandra Claire

Day One: Went to Council of Elrond. Was prettiest person there. Agreed to follow some tiny little man to Mordor to throw ring into volcano. Very important mission - gold ring so tacky.

Day Six: Far too dark in Mines of Moria to brush hair properly. Am very afraid I am developing a tangle.

Orcs so silly.

Still the prettiest.

Day 35: Boromir dead. Very messy death, most unnecessary. Did get kissed by Aragorn as he expired. Does a guy have to get shot full of arrows around here to get any action? Boromir definitely not prettier than me. Cannot understand it. Am feeling a pout coming on.

Frodo off to Mordor with Sam. Tiny little men caring about each other, rather cute really.

Am quite sure Gimli fancies me. So unfair. He is waist height, so can see advantages there, but chunky braids and big helmet most off-putting. Foresee dark times ahead, very dark times.

yep, same parents and no twins. Its no surprise that my grandmother died in her mid-sixties. All that birthing takes a toll.

Well I keep putting off the baking... Managed to find pickled eggs in Jensens but only in clear vinegar which isn't as good but owel... Jeremy hates them too but I looooove them ;) Tomorrow though it is bake-fest. I am making biscotti, some German cookies that Agnes kindly provided the recipe for, cheese straws, mince pies and sausage rolls... why are there no sausage rolls here?!

As for cousins, I have 5... Mum is one of three sisters and both sisters have two kids each. Dad was one of two and his sister has one kid so very small by comparison :D
