the situation is this ...my friend a filipina has an american (fil-am) fiance... the filipina is 22 years old and the american is 26 years old. the american has never left the philippines since last year and is hoping to go home to the states with his fiancee. now based on the 2 years previously met rule .. that means the filipina met him when she was 20 years old... and the american fiance fearing someone with takes place while he is away stayed here while they are processing the papers... would that be a red flag.. obviously they both haven't played the "field" and the marriage may not last long. anyway would age be a factor? thanks for all the help.

p.s

we dont know the financial status of the american fiance (if he is employed or owns a business), but he has stayed in the parental house of the filipina fiancee since last year.

Sometimes, age is an issue - particularly when one party is much older than the other. Some consulates do look at age very closely.

I don't know if yours is one of them; however, from what you describe I don't think it should be too much of a worry. You meet the legal requirements; you're of the age to marry.

It depends on the CO, some CO doesn't mind with the age gap of the couple..I have a friend whose fiance is 35 years older than her and she was approved. It all depends on the CO. I guess both of them is in the legal age to get married. I met a couple at St. Lukes and the girl is 19 and the american fiance is 20+ and the fiance american is finacially stable. We both had same interview date and they were approved too...

D&N is right about the 2 year meeting in person!

I wouldn't even consider a four-year gap a deviation from the average. No way that will cause a problem, as long as both can legally marry (as others have stated).

The age difference is no big deal. When they go to the interview, they will need some type of proof of income for previous months/years. Does the USC have some type of income stream coming in?

then i guess the income thing is the red flag, but i think the co wouldn't notice because he had given the tax forms for the previous years, the problem would then be if the co ask for the previous months (as opposed to years) income proof, which would put the american fiance on the spot because he had stayed here in the phil. since dec 06. anyway can the co detect that?

the income thing is really taking its toll, coz something happened recently, and the guage of how they are going financially sucks bigtime - they could not buy a replacement cellphone here in manila.
