My SO is three years older than me. Once upon a time, I was only interested in men at least 5 years older than me. Whenever I met guys within three years of my age, they always turned out to be so immature. But I tell you....africa breeds men different than they do out here. I've found alot of african men to be very mature, even at early ages. And I kinda like being in the same age range as my SO...I feel like I can relate to him better....and that we can grow together.

I don't know about all african men, but I know that my fiance is like that. He's only a year older than me, but I call him "old man" cause sometimes he really sounds like an old man. But it's nice because he's also very silly. It's nice to have a little of both. I found that he is more committed to a relationship, a marriage, a family that the men I met previously. It's a priority in his life and everything else is dessert. I'm finally mature enough to know what I want.

Just curious - what is the age difference between you and your SO?

I am 7 years older than my husband, he is ok with it... I think his family is too. They didn't think I was older than him until he told them.

No need to break it down to days and hours and such the years is a big enough number. I am 12 years older than him and he is Nigerian and the oldest son. But the family is ok with it. I guess they are happy that he is finially marrying. I feel like someone should be handing me the cougar award.

YAYYYY!! Another cougar! I am 10 years older than my husband. I'm 42 and he's 32. But the funny thing is, i am extremely young at heart. Don't feel or look my age. And i call him "an old soul" cuz we are absolutely perfect together. He is also the oldest of 9 children. His family had no problems with me(being white), my age or the fact i had children. Matter of fact when my 12yr old son and i lived there in Nigeria for 3 months, we were welcomed with open arms into his family. My son called his parents grandpa and grandma, and i call them mom and dad. And i am very close with his brothers and sisters, talking to them online regularly. I am truly blessed!

Does my 8.5 year difference make me a cougar too? (smile)

I apologize for all of my posts tonight. I am really enjoying this site and feel like I should start contributing more, since I have gained such invaluable insight and information regarding the process I am about to embark on (K1). I am very grateful for this venue. I appreciate all of you.

Maybe we should have our own thread the African Cougar Club. I am also white and have 3 grown childern. His family was so nice to me. They went out of their way when I visited to make sure I was ok with the foods and that I was as comfortable as conditions allowed. When I met his parents one of the other brothers sat behind between his father and I and acted as interpetor. That allowed Joseph and I to speak without stopping to translate.

My man is 3yrs older than me.....the interesting thing is that I always dated younger men.... my friends always warned me about rocking the craddle. Even now when we discuss  my baby has to remind me that he is older than me :lol:

Its funny because I never heard of the term cougar until I read through this thread yesterday. Then when I got home and watched Desperate Housewives of Orange County, there was some woman on there calling herself a cougar too. I was like "heyyyyyyyy....i know what a cougar is".

3 years doesn't really seem like a very big difference.
