travelling outside the US for a few months with AP

So my wife and I filed for her AOS, EAD and AP...got our first notice of action November 25. We're expecting to go stay with her granny in Europe and travel for a few months in March-May. What I'm wondering is:

1. Is it pretty safe to assume that booking a trip about 100 days after the first NOA is pretty safe?

2. What are the potential hang ups of being out of the country for about 2 months during this period? I assume she'll have biometrics done prior to that. What else might they be calling her to do in the meantime?

Thanks for any info/opinions!

Hello,

from what I just went through, my AP took only 22 days, but Iwas told if I left without having the letter or green card,. getting back into the country would be impossible and the process would have to start again. THey sent me two letters with the AP, one for exit and one for the return. As for the AOS, mine has been almost 60 days and still no word from the USCIS.

Good Luck

David

wow, we have already recieved our Biometrics appointments. It is only 2 1/2 weeks away.

It seems to be moving rather quickly.

This is great.

It's hard to say because people's timelines vary so much, but it's possible that your AOS interview could be scheduled during the time that you plan to be away. As long as your wife has her AP documents to reenter the country (at the point of entry, immigration will keep one copy and stamp the other to return to her for future travel), the two-month absence is not an issue. She should certainly have her AP by March.

It can be hard to plan things because the timelines are so unpredictable. She could have her green card by the time you guys plan to leave, or you may not even have your interview scheduled yet. I know that things have changed a bit since we filed our AOS, EAD, and AP two years ago, but our NOA1 was dated January 6, the biometrics/fingerprinting appointment was in mid-February, and the AOS interview was in early May. Jon (my husband) got his AP and EAD in March, about two weeks apart.

March 7, 2005: I-129F NOA1

September 20, 2005: K-1 Interview in London. Visa received shortly thereafter.

AOS

December 30, 2005: I-485 received by USCIS

May 5, 2006: Interview at Phoenix district office. Approval pending FBI background check clearance. AOS finally approved almost two years later: February 14, 2008.

Received 10-year green card February 28, 2008
