i would also like to add that, i dont think anyone is demanding that you learn another language...its not as if overnight everyone is going to start speaking a foreign language and not english anymore...

when i go out to eat, the waiter or waitress asks me what i would like in english and then if they communicate with other employees, i dont care what language they are doing it in, whats the big deal?

i live in new york city and personally do not encounter many workers that dont speak any english at all...many people dont speak perfectly, but it takes years to learn to speak a language perfectly...so what with the people who are still learning?

Common sense dictates that English be used and learned by anyone, regardless of origin, in this country. And that's the way its been and will be in spite of the flourishing of ignorance that decries the rising tide of internationalization of this country's population. Arguing that past generations of immigrants accepted and adopted American English only is incomplete in light of many maintaining ties to their particular cultures and ignoring the fact that previous generations did not have the commodity of modern communications.

Well said. :thumbs::yes:

No kidding. I am impressed maviwaro, very impressed. Mi respeto camarada (OH #######... that was NOT english :lol:)

The big deal is that some folks think (if that can be used as a verb in some cases...) that their country is being ruined by immigrants, even though they ignore the contribution many of these immigrants, many a times love and respect this country and its laws more than they do on many occasions.

Fear of change, ignorance, and jealousy, in my opinion, are big motivators of criticizing what, in terms of the topic of this forum touches upon, is the increasing search of American companies for better talent (for better production) HERE in the US. If this means utilizing foreign talent that speaks more languages than we do, then so be it as long as the company benefits.

Go figure, supporting a bill like this goes against the enriching principles of the Republican Party.

Giuliani is touting his immigration plan in a new ad.

MANCHESTER, New Hampshire (CNN) — Rudy Giuliani debuted a new ad Thursday designed to assure primary voters in the Granite State that he will be tough on illegal immigration.

In the 30-second spot, which comes less than a month before New Hampshire voters head to the polls, Giuliani says that it is possible to "end illegal immigration." He lays out his immigration plan, which involves completing a fence along the U.S.-Mexico border, providing new training for the border patrol, and creating a tamper-proof national I.D. card.

Once immigrants attain citizenship, adds Giuliani, they will have to "read English, write English, speak English and understand American civics."

Thank God for this. Whenever I'm in the ladies' room at work and the cleaning ladies are conversing in Spanish, I'm paranoid they're talking about my bathroom habits.

Do they have a reason to do so? :o

Kind of like that Seinfeld episode where Elaine goes to the Korean salon, where the

employees talk about her in Korean right in front of her.

I don't know, they keep saying Olor! and then giggling.

Now I'm gonna report them.
