 Having just spent a few days in Southern FL, I saw that color A LOT! *shudders*

Do you ladies mind me asking if you color your own hair or have it done professionally? I have had highlights done a few times but didn't think I was getting enough bang for my buck so I stopped. But now the grays are starting to re-emerge and I am getting bored with my natural color. So I am debating whether to find out if there are any good do-it-yourself kits out there or if I should just suck it up and pay the $$$.

Nice way to hijack this thread, btw. I hate spiders. *shudders again*

Yep, you know the color I'm talkin about, ahhahahaa.

I get mine prof done btw. I do touch ups myself cos I have the formula & I have access to the professional beauty supply stores cos I hold a nail license. However, anything other than just a straight touchup on the color I have now would have me in the hairdresser's chair faster than you can say tickety boo....so anything like blonde/highlights/lowlights I wouldnt' mess around with.

Seriously, suck it up and pay the money.

And yeah spiders suck!!!

Florida's Brown Recluse can kick a UK False Widow's azz any day, lol

lisa, when did you go blonde?

I was blonde, now considering going back.

D HATES it, so that's a big mark against it. Even Shele was all 'meh'

But I wanna see if it grows on me again, lol....gettin bored with my hair.

As a Hairstylist, IMO, blonde looks great on you.

I could tell the story of how a cockroach caused me to upend my old 75lb 22" CRT monitor giving me a big bruise and breaking my monitor. It would take way to long to type out though. In the end, the roach died. Lysol + grill lighter. They smell like burning hair.

LOL...did you set the house on fire too?

One time, a lizard fell from a tree into my car while the top was down. I about caused a 10 car pile up.

Nah, his demise was on the tiled bathroom floor so no damage. He picked a bad place to flip over on his back like that. I was going to smash and flush but after everything he caused...

They smell like burning hair.

That is just so...yuck.

I know, but after my broken monitor and the big black and blue bruise on my hip smash and flush just wasn't enough.

I hadn't seen that color since I left NY. It almost made my homesick.

Yeah, I am leaning towards professional but just need a little reaffirmation. I tried henna a few times, and boy did that turn out, shall we say, interesting. So I can only imagine what could happen if I tried to do real color by myself.

Ah well, a new color to go with my new tan!

And FWIW, I think you look great as a blonde!

When I had blonde highlights I always had it done at my local Toni & Guy (remember them? lol). Once I started going red I did it at home. I've spent so many hours in a hair salon I know how to do it properly anyway. But I really wouldn't recommend high or low lights to be done at home. Asking for trouble IMO!!

I miss my Toni & Guy hairdresser :(

I can't find a good gay hairdresser in NYC - most of them are Asian women.

I took many Toni and Guy classes, great techniques and beautiful work. Don't care much for the products though.

I had a nice gay hairdresser at Toni & Guy in Dublin for a summer! Went twice.

The red hair stuff reminds me of when I was on my high school trip to Spain, and I was 16 and thinking I was a punk rocker, and some of my friends and I went to the store (El Corte Ingles or whatever) and bought this punky red hair dye. They had tons of boxes of it in stock, which I thought was weird for such a strange color. We went back to the hotel and dyed my hair and I thought it looked sooooo awesome until the next morning I went out on the street and discovered that half the old ladies in Madrid had the same color of hair. Oh the horror. It's maybe a shade lighter than Old Jewish Lady, which I believe is an official shade.

 That's really funny.

My Dad lives in Malta and tons of the women there want blonde hair. Unfortunately, their hair tends to be jet black there so when bleached it goes a nasty orange colour. *shudders*
