Received biometrics appt letter when we thought we were at the interview stage

So, we did the biometrics at the beginning on Sept, and received a letter yesterday for a biometrics appointment in January. There was no mention of any issues with the previous biometrics appointment. It seems like a mistake on their part. We've been waiting for an interview letter for almost 4 months and now it feels like we are starting all over again. We called the number on the form and spoke with several people but no one seems to have any idea what's going on. I guess we'll just show up anyway, but this is SO frustrating.

Has this happened to anyone else?!

I've seen it happen when the FBI need better fingerprints for security checks. It's not starting you over :)

edit: I believe that's a database they check against or so I've been told...

If your receipt number begins with IOE, it might be because of the issue they recently had with background checks and all the delays that's caused. I think I read about some other people with IOE numbers who had to go do their biometrics again.
