NSO Marriage Certificate Question

8 posts in this topic

Recommended Posts

I am a US citizen marrying a filipina. We already have the marriage license and my fiancee's pastor will be officiating our marriage in Boracay in May. We are planning on going the DCF route after we get married. I have a question on the Marriage Certificate. We want to minimize the amount of time it takes to get the marriage certificate from the NSO office here in the Philippines.

So 2 questions

1) After we get married, do we need to file the marriage license documents with the local registrar in Boracay or can we do this in Manila?

2) I've read online, that it can take up to 2 months to get the official certificate back from the NSO office. Is this true? I would like to file the DCF option as quickly as possible after we are married. Is there a way to expedite getting an official copy of the marriage certificate?

Thank you

File in the town where the marriage took place. You will need a NSO copy of your MC. Can't get around that stipulation. Your milage will vary.

Thank you for the reply. Has anyone had any luck asking for an Advanced Endorsement when filing the marriage license at the local registrar? From reading online, seems to speed up the process to about 2 weeks.

yes you can ask the local civil registar office in Bohol when you get marry, to expedite the marriage certificate to the nso. I forgot how long that took, but since you will be in the Philippines you should be able to pick it up at any NSO location instead of having them send it to you

I had my certificate expedited but since I waited a while to file my petition I did not really need to do that

Are you currently living in the Philippines? You need to have resided in the Philippines at least 6 months for the DCF.

Hank_ is right. They take that 6 months legal residence requirement seriously.

The USCIS officer went through my passport looking at dates of stamps before I told her that I'm a dual citizen (can stay in the PHL indefinitely without any visa or extensions). Plus they ask for other evidence, such as utility bills, bank accounts, leases, etc.

Others have been able to file DCF as a tourist (from my readings here before I filed DCF), provided that you have been here legally for 6 months or more.

I'll ask the registrar for an Advanced Endorsement when I file. Hopefully, it speeds that up.

Yes, I've been here since January 1st. By the time I apply, it will be 6 months. I have a Philippine Bank Account, Philippine Driver's License, and I am in the process of getting the ACR card. Hopefully, these items will satisfy the residency requirement.

I had my wife ask for advanced endorsement a week after we got married. The local government office gave her a letter and showing the they are asking NSO to expedite. Unfortunately when we got a RFE for the certificate we found out they never sent it to NSO. It was literally still sitting in the local government office.

The good part was they gave her the file and she sent it over night via LBC to the closest NSO office. They also gave the NSO officers number to my wife. We had the certificate in about a 10 days or so.
