Hi,

Me (Belgian) and my boyfriend (US citizen) currently are living in Canada. We have 2 daughters which are registered as US citizens. We are wanting to move to the US but are wandering which route to take. Mainly looking into timeframe - Fiancee visa or CR1 through consular processing? Also does anybody have experience with filing for a fiancee visa while the US citizen is living outside the US?

Thank you for your help.

K1 is faster but almost twice as much money.

You still will need a joint sponsor if your boyfriend doesn't live and work in the USA though.

NLR do I still need the cosponsor if he has enough money in assets? I read that counts too but ratio 3:1? We should have enough in assets / savings account.

Likely not, especially if they are already US based assets. However, domicile can be a huge issue, it's rarely brought up at K1 interviews though. You may want to ask in the Canada forum if anyone else had a similar issue with domicile for a K1 but I highly doubt it as you're signing a letter of intent to get married in the USA within 90 days.
