Hi, I'm applying for a AOS from a tourist visa, got here 6 months ago, to visit my boyfriend at the time, and he asked me to stay... We got married 2 weeks ago and now i'm going through all the forms. I have a few questions about them, but the first one is the Part 2 on the I-485 that asks why I'm applying for a AOS, it seems like no answer is correct... Should I check other and write that I entered on a tourist visa and got married?? What should I do?

Another question, I haven't changed my name yet, the only thing that has my married name so far is the marriage certificate, should I write my married name as my name?

Welcome to VJ!

For Part 2 on the I-485 form, the correct answer for you will be

(A) An immigrant petition giving me an immediately available immigrant visa number that has been approved. (Attach a copy of the approval notice, or a relative, special immigrant juvenile, or special immigrant military visa petition filed with this application that will give you an immediately available visa number, if approved.)

Your I-130 is that relative visa petition that you are filing with your I-485 that will give you an immediately available visa number, if approved.

If your marriage certificate has your new name on it, you can use that for these forms. That way your GC will come with your new married name.

03/31/2011 - Day 28 - Successful walk-in biometrics done

05/12/2011 - Day 70 - EAD Arrived, issued on 05/02

06/14/2011 - Day 103 - E-mail notice: Interview letter mailed, interview scheduled for July 20th

07/20/2011 - Day 139 - Interview at Federal Plaza USCIS location

07/22/2011 - Day 141 - E-mail approval notice received (Card production)

07/27/2011 - Day 146 - 2nd Card Production Email received

07/28/2011 - Day 147 - Post-Decision Activity Email from USCIS

08/04/2011 - Day 154 - Husband returns home from abroad; Welcome Letter and GC have arrived in the mail

("Resident since" date on the GC is 07/20/2011

no, you had better be filing an i-130 along with the i-485 and then you mark A
