On 9/25/17 USCIS updated our EAD application to "New Card Is Being Produced-On September 25, 2017, we ordered your new card for Receipt Number MSC179*******, and will mail it to the address you gave us. If you move, go to www.uscis.gov/addresschange to give us your new mailing address.

This is great news right? This is where the confusion comes in at. Our I-485 is still saying: Response To USCIS' Request For Evidence Was Received
On July 12, 2017, we received your response to our Request for Evidence for your Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or to Adjust Status, Receipt Number MSC179******. Our National Benefits Center office will begin working on your case again. We will mail you a decision or notify you if we need something from you. If you move, go to www.uscis.gov/addresschange to give us your new mailing address.

And our petition for travel still says it was received May 23 2017. No change. We never received a letter for an interview or anything else.

Can anyone give me some insight to maybe what is going on?  Also side question: Can my husband travel home when he gets his green card and EAD?

Thank you in advance

For the AP it sometimes doesn't update until later and sometimes not at all even though they are both (EAD/AP) approved and will be sent as a combo card.

The EAD/AP is processed separate from the Green card (i485). The EAD/AP are so you can work and travel while waiting  on the Green Card which can take up to a year depending on what field office you belong to and what processing times they have.

Once you get the GC you no longer need the EAD/AP as you will then be a legal permanent resident  (lpr) which entitles you to work and travel.

The EAD and AP is for work and travel while waiting for your greencard to get approved. So those two are just temporary things to make life easier on you until your AOS gets approved. So it's just the normal, that the EAD/AP combo card is approved before you hear anything about your greencard. You can still have to wait for months to hear anything about your AOS process.
