Hi

So as I am preparing to send off my I-130 I was looking at the English translation of my marriage paper. According to my marriage paper it says that I was asked if I was ever married before and I stated no...which is not true. I have been married before and I got my divorce papers authenticated at the Egyptian Embassy in Chicago and also in Cairo. So they knew I was divorced. So wondering what do I do now? I don't want to look like I lied when I got married. Do I write an explanation letter and include the copy of the authenticity stamps from the Egyptian government? Please help??‍♀️

Just to clarify what I wrote when I said it asked if I was married and I said no. I meant of course I said yes I had been married before at the time I was getting married and they were wrong stating that I said no. I didn't mean that I lied I meant they were wrong. So whoever filled the marriage paper out filled it out wrong. And I have my divorce papers showing the Egyptian govt authenticated them. It's just so weird and I don't want to look like I lied or something.

On the original Arabic marriage certificate, it says you said 'yes',? correct? If so, then just get a new corrected translation. If on the Arabic marriage certificate,  then write an explanation letter of the mistake, if you and your husband cannot get a corrected marriage certificate from Egypt. I agree it's better to be clearly honest with them.

Yeah on the original marriage cert it says I said yes I was married before and the date of my divorce. It's just the English translation that is wrong. Do you think I can just send it and write a letter explaining that the translation is wrong or do I need to get a new translation?

No, they will give you an RFE. Alhamdulilllah it is only the translation. You can get it translated again, correctly. This is so much easier for you.
