How Long Should I Wait for letter from NVC?

Hello All,

I am new to this and was very hesitant about creating a profile as i am a private person, but seeing how nice and informative the members on here all I figured I would give it a shot.

I am not sure where to go from where I am now. At this point i am waiting to receive the letter from the NVC with my case number. I called about 2 weeks after it was sent from the USCIS and was able to get the number and track my case online. The status is now "ready" for interview but it also states that i should've received a letter. I decided to call the NVC and was told that they sent a letter to my fiance in DR about 18 days ago and he has not received anything. I am really confused as to what I should do next. The NVC said they would email me a new letter but it would take 7 days, why does an email take so long? I am also not sure if I should have my fiance start the paperwork in DR for the visa or if i am to wait..

I hope someone can shed some light on this.. Thanks in advance!

After the USCIS sends the paperwork to the NVC it takes a few weeks for them to get back to you. If you have your DOS case number you can go online and check you case, the USCIS site will not be useful again until AFTER the NVC has processed all your paperwork, this can take about 3 or more months depending on how fast you can gather all the necessary paperwork and send it to them.

Use these sites to help:

This site gives you step by step instructions, what paperwork you need to send in, etc.

http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/immigrate/immigrant-process/approved.html

On this site you can check your case while it's in the NVC, submit the IV and Affidavit fees:

https://ceac.state.gov/IV/Login.aspx

Once you register on the second link as the agent for your beneficiary you will receive all the emails and letters. They do not send anything by regular mail (it's not reliable in DR) so you should use your US address whenever possible.

After all this is done and you receive your appointment date you will need to register in 2 other additional sites, but for now this is as far as you will need to go until you have your appointment date
