Changing name back to maiden name on green card

Hi,

Am sorry if this post is on the wrong forum.

I received my conditional green card about 2 months ago, and it was issued in my husband's name. I did not realize how difficult it would be to start a new identity with a new name given that all my information in the US is in my maiden name. So now am thinking about changing my name on my green card(I haven't yet changed anything else to the new name)

Is this possible/would it be an issue with USCIS? What would be the best way to go about this?

I have almost 2 years before ROC so I figure it would be easier to change it now than then.

Oh and no, we are not divorced

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Name changes are controlled by state law. In Georgia you enter you name after marriage on the marriage license and it becomes officially your name after marriage. So you green card is in your current legal name. To change back to your maiden name, you would need to file a name change with the courts of Georgia and legally change your name back to your maiden name first. Yes there will be a fee. Then you could file a form I-90 with USCIS and pay the fee of $450 to get a new green card in your maiden name.

me too. Getting the green card in the married name is the biggest hurdle getting a new name based on marriage for most people.
