I'm planning to invite my in-laws for about 6months visit.

1. Can I send them just one invitation letter, afidavit of support, ect. for both of them or I need to separate them?

2. Can I book one interview date for both of them or it needs to be separate interview dates for each one?

3. What pitfalls do I need to avoid with this process?

thanks folks for all your help.

One more thing: you want them to come for a visit, right?

Not to immigrate to the US?

Since you opened this thread in a section about bringing family members to the US.

ahh sorry ths is the wrong forum. yes they're coming for a visit not to immigrate

Visitor visas are not petition based visas, meaning there is no petition to be filed by anyone. Invitation letters can accompany their application, but is neither required, nor particularly helpful. The consular officer doesn't look at an applicant's reason to visit, they only care that 1. They're just visiting, 2. They can afford the trip, and 3. They won't overstay.

If you're paying for their trip and their stay, an invitation letter might be more relevant, but by no means required.

a lot of people try the 'divide and conquer' approach, sending their relatives separately to the interview...problem is...they will be asked with whom they are traveling, and when they say 'alone, because my spouse is staying home..', then, two weeks later, the spouse shows up for his/her interview, they will be asked the same question...while the CO is viewing the application of the other spouse...and, seeing a vast difference in stories, guess what will happen? Not only will the current application be denied, the previously issued visa is likely to get cancelled as well...word to the wise.
