My fiance is coming on Saturday. She wants to setup her phone for roaming, so she can text message her family. She will only bring the sim card.

Does she need to maintain a load every month? Will her SIM card work in the US?

I have cingular.

i just hope somebody will post here that they're using Smart Roaming in US.

anyway, as per my experience in Middle East, i have a smart roaming & i need to maintain a credit otherwise it will be disconnected. The P300 load last for like 3-4 months. I think it depends on the SMS messages that you receive.

So, what we do before is that..my family just send an SMS message on that SMart number when its emergency & when im not online. because you can also use this CHIKKA when sending & receiving SMS messages from the philippines.

When they reply on the chikka account, it will only cost them P2.00 per SMS messagel.

Why not add her to your Cingular/AT&T account........would be a helluva lot cheaper.

I had Globe and when I was back here in the states for meetings, Globe raped me in text and calls.

Philippine sim card wont work on american phones, so she should better bring her phone as well. Try to check first if Smart roaming is available in your place or let her check with Smart . I made a mistake with that, i brought along my phone with Smart roaming when i came here in Las Vegas and unfortunately Smart roaming is not available in Las Vegas , that sucks!

on SMART. type ROAM ON then send it to 333 before leaving pinas. Use ur roaming sim just for receiving txt msg. If you will use ur smart sim here in US. Make sure the cp is open line. Use chikka or US carrier phone for sending txt.

I added Claudeth to my Verizon account and we have nation-wide coverage. Texting the Philippines can get to be a bit expensive, maybe they should look into using Yahoo Messenger

Why not let her go to any Smart Office or call their customer service? We inquired about this last year but I forgot about all details. All I can remember is that the phone can only be used for texting only no calls using the smart roaming. The people from Philippines who text her will be charged 1.00 peso only but it would cost more if she replies. I think it's 20 pesos. She will also be getting the prepaid load from the Philippines, let her family send to her.

I use a Smart Sim card in the US from a US phone that is unlocked. I bought the Sim Card in Cebu before I left and had the international roaming activated at that time. As long as the phone can pick up a GSM signal, then you will be fine. Her family doesn't have to load her from the Philippines either. You can load at http://www.aryty.com or at http://www.pldtonline.com . As dj1206 mentioned, she will pay 20 peso's per text when sending while roaming and all she'll be able to do is text, no calls. You can always check the balance on the Smart card by registering at http://www.smart.com.ph/Buddy .

Hope this helps

No problem, when I got my card, the rep at Smart had told me that my fiancee would have to load me. I did some digging around the net, and those are the best two that I found. Aryty is a little cheaper than PLDTonline, but I don't care for the customer service at Aryty.

I have a Smart SIM card that I used here in the US and I am also a customer of Cingular/ AT&T. Thus, I carry 2 cellphones all the time. I only use my SMART for all incoming texts, place a load via chikka.com as its maintaining balance monthly ($5.99 for 230 loads). When I reply, I either use chikka.com or my own Cinglular. Cingular now came out with 100 internatonal txts for $9.99, and after that will be 20cents (i think).

HI there, Im using SMART ROAMING, so far it reached ZERO balance from the day I arrived here (texting with my hubby then fiance while in the airports), until now I havent reloaded it yet and still working. When I was in middle east my sister is loading my roaming every 3 months. Now that Im here, I will tell her to reload 30php every 3months.

Im using chikka to text them back or my US number. When they text you on your Chikka it cost 2.50 php.
