Yes. If your GC has expired (or will expire by the time you return to the USA) you'll need to carry your NOA1 receipt for your I-751 as this shows that your status is pending and has been extended for 1 year.

* I-130/CR-1 visa by Direct Consular Filing in London
3rd May 2013 - Married in London
7th May 2013 - I-130 filed
4th June 2013 - NOA2 (approved)
16th July 2013 - Interview (approved)
30th July 2013 - POE San Francisco
29th August 2013 - 2 year green card arrived

* Removal of Conditions (RoC) via California Service Centre
1st May 2015 - 90 day RoC window opened
6th May 2015 - I-751 filed (delivered 8th May, cheque cashed 18th May)

* Naturalisation (Citizenship) via Phoenix Lockbox

* San Francisco Field Office:
1st May 2016 - N-400 window opened
20th August 2016 - N-400 filed
26th August 2016 - NOA1

Have you already filed and completed biometrics?

Be careful because if you miss you biometrics appointment you may be considered to have abandoned your green card.

But if you've already taken care of biometrics and someone can check your mail for you while you're away (in case you get called for interview or RFE) then you can travel all you like!

My wife and stepson are in the middle of the ROC process. My wife and I did a car day trip to Vancouver BC area a few months ago. We took both of our passports, a copy of our marriage license, her expired conditional GC, and the original Form I-797 (NOA1) receipt/extension letter. We presented these documents to the Canadian and US border officials at the respective checkpoints. We had a pleasant day trip, with no issues.

Thank you all for your so kind replies.

Biometrics were done back in January, and much hope to soon get a reply on the I-751 after a 5 months wait. But realize it could be months still to get that.

So kinda on the fence if to go on a trip or not.
