just called Dealership Hyundai, send me to Hyundai canada ill call in morning as they are on EST

Hope u reads the link I provided..other Hyundai owners have had no luck

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

im looking at NHTSA website [ http://www.nhtsa.gov/cars/rules/import/ ]

so if we have a FMVSS sticker then we are good if it has a CMVSS sticker then we need a compliance letter? I mean this is what it says as its 'Box 2B on the HS-7 Declaration form]

Hyundai Update

OK update from my two phones calls, well three actually, called San Diego dealership he told me a Canadian recently imported his santa fe gave me

Hyundai Motors of America # 1-888-216-2626

-Lady was helpful took all my information, because I knew my US Cell # and US address was easy for her to enter into the system, gave her also VIN tho she didnt ask, they are going to Fax over something [dont know yet what exactly]

Hyundai Canada 1-800-461-8242

-They will give me a Canadian Compliance which we all knew already, which of course doesnt help us at the border *shakes head* and of course told me I need to call a import company blah blah,

From my understanding I will in California anyways need to get car inspected before Registration, Smog and the 'US Safety' one

So thats what I have so far will update once I get letters

PS Love how I told the Hyundai Canada people that my car has a EPA sticker [meets emissions] and is driven in US and they like well we dont know if it meets US standards lol, USA people friendly and helpful now to see what they wrote

Cheers

They say you cannot import a vehicle with a lien. If your lender is scotiabank, good freaking luck they are ridiculous.

I have a lien on my hyundai and my lender is scotia bank!! I paid an importer to get it over the boarder and of course still making my monthly payments. Curious to know what scotia bank said and how to get around this. How do you register the car without the title

Thank you

Edit. Unless you pay it off in full. You'd need probably your registration from whichever province and maybe if you can get financing through another bank (us bank) But then you'd for sure lose any awesome interest rates if you had them. The thing is the bank has to discharge the lien so you own it free and clear but without winning the lottery...Oi!

I paid my car off before I moved, as I had been told its nearly impossible to import with outstanding balance. Even at the DMV she was telling me I didn't fill out the info on the lien... I said I don't have one, I own the vehicle. She insisted I have to have the title, or it means I owe money on the car and I explained that in Canada our registration is also our title and she went and looked in their book and came back and said you are correct. I went BC to CA, so all my dealings are with the CA DMV.

They can and probably will do a ppr search in your "home" jurisdiction (Nova Scotia).

Personal property registry (ppr) will pop up a hit if they search your vin saying Fred smith is the debtor, Bank of Somewhere as the secured party/parties (lender), and there's usually a little collateral blurb saying "whatever year ford pinto serial number 123456789xyz"
