Government Shutdown

My fiancé's interview is October 8th and I'm sick with worry about the outcome and the possibility Brazil says come back for 2nd interview with me there (like I have an extra +$1000 to waste on plane tickets just to go to the interview). Of course now on top of that I'm worried about a government shutdown and how that may affect the embassy. Would the shutdown affect existing scheduled interviews? If they are jerks and require me to attend a second interview would the shutdown affect how fast the second interview would be scheduled?

I don't think any of us could know for absolute certain. These are probably considered "non-essential functions" and so would likely be cut in the event of a shutdown, but I wouldn't worry about it too much. Government shutdown has been threatened a couple of times, mostly just empty threats or the House trying to swing its power around. No one actually wants it to happen, so it's basically the Congressional equivalent of playing "chicken". A deal is usually struck at the final moments to keep services at 100% because nobody wants the blame for that, politically.

Not a guarantee, but I wouldn't get too concerned about it.

I understand that but the fact is I'm almost done with this hell of being apart and the threat of a shutdown and it's possible impacts is too much. I've already contacted my congressmen so not much more to do except wait.

USCIS as for the embassies doesn't get affected by the government shutdown because most of the money comes from the applicants so there's nothing to worry, they will work normally. The shutdown applies to the offices that depend directly from the government and no from the people in general. Regards and good luck!

The consulates and embassies aren't part of USCIS; they're under the Department of State.
