I-864 letter review

A couple of weeks back, I was told that since I have never filed taxes or had a job (university student), I should write a letter to send along with my I-864, aside from my mother's cosponsor I-864 and all of her documents. I've written it up in preparation for sending it out hopefully next week, and wanted to post it here so others could read it and hopefully tell me it's okay! Any suggestions, please post.

I am Elizabeth XXXXXXX XXXXX, Diego XXXXXX XXXXX XXXXXX’s wife and petitioning sponsor. I did not file an income tax return for the years 2010, 2011, or 2012, nor any previous year, because I moved to Ecuador shortly after graduating from high school, had no job during high school, and was unable to legally work while in Ecuador, as I was a university student and was on a student visa. During my stay in Ecuador, as I was unable to work, I used savings given to me by my parents to support my university career, and was also partially maintained by my husband, whose parents helped him as mine helped me. Since I made no income for these years of any type, I was not required to file an income tax return with the Internal Revenue Service.

Elizabeth, as a secretary for many years, I learned not to explain before I said what the explanation was about! Your letter is very good, except that you state the important part at the end. Also, I don't think it's a terrible idea to include an explanation of what you did, but it's not strictly necessary because they are really only concerned with who CAN sponsor the immigrant, not why you can't. See if you like this:

I am Elizabeth XXXXXXX XXXXX, Diego XXXXXX XXXXX XXXXXX’s wife and petitioning sponsor. My Form I-164 is enclosed. My mother is acting as my co-sponsor. Please refer to her attached co-sponsor Form I-864.

I did not enclose my income tax returns for the years 2010, 2011, or 2012, nor any previous year, because I did not make any income, therefore I was not required to file. In Ecuador, I was a university student and was on a student visa, thus I was legally unable to work in that country.
