DOCUMENT TRANSLATION confusion

Hi everyone... I have just received the final instructions link from the embassy after paying my fee and sending in all required documents. My Fiancee has also completed medical... everything was supposed to be in place as far as I was concerned and then upon reading the final instructions i get this excerpt from their web page:

"Translations: All documents not in English must be accompanied by certified English translations. The translation must include a statement signed by the translator that state that the translation is accurate, and sworn to before a Notary Public."

everything I had read before simply said certified translations required in english for all documents in other languages... I had her birth cert translated in the US by a reputable company, her polish police certificate translated in Poland by a translator registered with the ministry of justice in poland, and I am just sending off her police cert from Italy when I encountered the above quote!!!!! I am about to explode!!!! these translations arent cheap by any means... around $100 us except for the one I had done in Poland..... Now it seems I may have to do this all over again! My issue being that they werent seemingly sworn to by a notary public!

can anyone tell me their experiences with translations and the US embassy in London???????

I don't think that notarization is necessary. I've been on the UK forum for 4+ years and have never known anybody to notarize. The London list of documents is here http://london.usembassy.gov/application_documents.html

It says:

Translations:  All documents not in English must be accompanied by certified English translations. The translation must include a statement signed by the translator that state that the translation is accurate.  Only one copy is needed. Note: Applicants are also required to submit the original document, in the original language.

 

Also do you know that you don't have to have a fancy paid translator? Certified means the translator adds a statement saying they certify (promise, swear, attest to) that they are fluent in both English and Polish and have translated the document completely and accurately. it could be your neighbor in Poland.

Hi,

I had to get my son's Spanish Birth certificate translated aswell as a spanish police certificate for me.

I used a translation company in my near-by town, they printed it on company headed paper, stamped it, signed it and at the bottom typed; Cintra Ltd certifies that this translation has been carried out by a qualified translator and that it is true and accurate to the best of the translator's knowledge and ability.

I also asked the Translator to do a declaration and sign it (this didn't cost any extra)

When I handed in my documents at the interview, I only gave the translation and they didn't ask for a letter from the translator. However this was in the UK, I'm not sure if it will be different in Poland?

I didn't have anything sworn by a notary.

Could you please tell us what you did in the end because I have exactly the same situation now.

Very frustrating to not know if I need to pay for a Notary Public....
