hey everyone!

so i am a bit confused on the dl for ca... what is the process?

my wife is waiting for ead and all that good stuff and is getting ready for the permit exam

once she takes and passes the permit exam, can she take the behind the wheel test right away or does she need to take lessons? i havent done this in like 16 years so i dont particularly remember.

she knows how to drive, i just don't know if this is a requirement? dmv website, just like most of their employees, doesnt make it very clear as what all the steps should be

thank you in advance,

Felix

She doesn't have to take lessons. She needs to take the behind the wheel driving test. Drive around and make sure she turns her head every time she makes a turn or changes a lane. It's like dancing for half-an-hour.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

Driver's Ed and practice hours/lessons are only required if a new driver is under age 18. She doesn't need them.

Brother Hesekil's advice is right on the spot. Make sure she drives the buggy around Amish country :rofl: so she will be used to the traffic flow and streets where she will be taking her driving test.

I took my 16 years old nephew for his driving test last year. Here are a few tips that I picked up on because he got points taken off;

Do check the mirrors, seat belts, and look around before putting the car in drive. Don't just put the car in drive and go even if the kid already did when we left his house. The DMV wants to see basic skills.

Use the left and right turning lights on every turn.

Don't take the test during commuting and lunch time when traffic is heavier. Take the test during the dead hours from 9:30 to 11:30 AM and 1:30 to 3:30 PM when are at work or at school.

=My wide came from Russia with Russian DL April 2011. I bought her a car the next day. She was driving with Russian DL for 2 weeks.

We went to DMV in San Diego. They took her Russian Passport, I94, Russian DL copy. They gave her written test IN RUSSIAN. She passed. They gave her temporary 90 day DL with which she could drive alone since she already had Russian DL

Then she scheduled behind the wheel appointment 2 weeks froim the written test. She passed and received permanent DL valid for 5 years. No problem. This happened way before EAD or anything

Write on my personal email if you have questions

One more thing: they also made a copy of our marriage certificate (if she changed the name, in my case she did)
