Consulate Review: Madrid, Spain
Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : September 4, 2025
Embassy Review : Painless but slightly convoluted process.

- Need to go into the embassy twice, once at least 3 weeks before the other
- Only one place in the city does the medical
- Need to sign up for an account in a separate website to schedule appointment and arrange delivery/pickup of visa

Overall the interview process was smooth, if a bit convoluted. You first need to attend your medical at least 3 weeks before your actual scheduled interview. You will go to the health center, they'll do the health test and they'll give you a slip with a time slot to go to the embassy, either that same day or the following.

On this first appointment you need to bring all of the necessary documents (the ones they strictly required from me were original police certificates and marriage license) but I brought a lot more just in case. This step went well for me as I had submitted all the required documents, but somebody who was in the booth next to me was asked to submit additional evidence of something to do with the Affidavit of Support.

After that I had to wait the 3 weeks til my actual interview. Had my interview the other day. Went to the same place in the embassy and this time had an actual "interview" but it was extremely straightforward: how we met, what she does for work, what her parents' names are and what they do for work, whether I had been to her city and if so when was the last time, and when she'd last been to visit me.

Right there the officer said "you have been approved, congrats" and handed me a piece of paper that said "Welcome to the USA" with some instructions.

You don't leave with the visa, they will ship it to you according to your selection. Mine was ready to be picked up 48 hours after my interview.
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
