Consulate Review: Mumbai, India
Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : March 19, 2015
Embassy Review : So, I had my biometrics appointment on 17th march , 4 pm at bombay. It hardly took more than 5 minutes. But the waiting was so long, You need biometrics appointment letter, interview letter, ds260 confirmation copy , your original passport and 2 photos 2x2 size with white background. Just like you do at POE in usa, Place four fingers of each hand on scanner , one after another and then both the thumb together. Give your 2 passport size photos (2x2). also get your photo taken from canon dslr. lol. It is so hot there , when you are waiting in line , there is no shade outside.

Next day interview at 7:30 am, I knew about the prohibited things, so I had no coins or any digital items with me, did not take wallet inside but kept rupees notes in my pocket, I had 2 harmonium files along with a big wedding album. It was hard to carry everything but somehow I managed. The file structure was
1 . black harmonium file for all the documents except proof of relationship.
pocket 1. interview letter
pocket 2. passport
pocket 3. pcc & marriage certificate
pocket 4. birth certificate
pocket 5. medical report and vaccination records
pocket 6. tax return 1 ( my wife's tax return, 2012, 13 , 14) , w-2s , paystubs of last 2 months)
pocket 7 tax return 2( my tax return of 2012,13,14 from usa and india)
pocket 8 education degrees , old i-20s from my student visa
pocket 9 employment details (offer letters, experience letters, resignation letter)
pocket 10 forms , print of of i-130 , ds 260 , g-325a
pocket 11 receipts i-797s of my work permits from usa
pocket 12 Misc , ( docs related to my work permit of usa, copy of my usa driving license, ssn card)
you dont need to take all the things from above, its case specific.
2 . blue harmonium file for proof of relationship.
pocket 1. photos
pocket 2. marriage invitation cards
pocket 3. facebook updates
pocket 4. emails and chats
pocket 5. oovoo logs ( video call logs)
pocket 6. whatsapp messages
pocket 7 tickets of trips we took to see each other
pocket 8 bank accounts
pocket 9 phone bills
pocket 10 gift receipts
pocket 11 greeting cards we sent to each other
pocket 12 hotel bills from the trip we took together.
Dont worry if you dont have so many things for proof of relationship. you can collect what you have and take to the interview.
So , first i was called by an Indian officer. smiling young man. I said hi and all, then
he: is this first marriage for both of you?
me: answered
he: what's your birth date?
me: answered
he: Have you ever visited any other countries?
me: answered.
he: how long was your stay in canada and on which visa you were in usa?
me: answered
he: give me your old passport.
me: he checked old visa stamps.
he: when did you come back from USA?
me: answered
he: here are your documents which you submitted to NVC, we dont need any more documents from you.
me: I have the latest tax return from 2014.
he: oh that's good. please give it.
I was taking it out and he saw 2014 w-2. he also asked for it.
He gave me domestic violence paper and told me to read it and he said officer may ask you questions related to this.

After long wait, I was called by american visa officer. Smiling man with age around 45-50.
me: hello, how are you ?
he: I am fine , how about yourself? (he started typing) and asked so your wife is in PA?
me: yes
he: is she an engineer?
me : yes
he: so you were in USA for studies . from which college you finished engineering
me: answered
he: how was the college?
me: it was very good. it is located in newark downtown. campus has taco bell inside it and I love taco bell(as soon as he heard taco bell, he smiled and stopped typing , was looking at me). I was smiling .
he said okay , then started typing again
he: so is it love marriage or arranged?
me: answered ( he was not looking at me at all)
typing typing more typing....
he: here is the paper , you will have to pay $165 for green card fee. you are all set.
me: Thank you so much , have a nice day.

I wish good luck to all the people who are waiting for an interview.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
