It was kind of crowded when i got there, but i was lucky to be directed in the US citizen line thanks to my son being a Citizen.
Then i got moved to a different officer than the one i was supposed to see. Total wait was about 15/20 minutes.
The officer I had was not very friendly. He asked me a few questions concerning my past exchange and student visas and my last visit to the US where i overstayed the VWP. He took my fingerprints and handed me my son's passport telling me i could hold on to that one but that for me they had a few more questions. So i was directed to secondary where i waited for about 30 minutes before they handed my passport back to me. No questions asked, i guess it was just the regular procedure. |

Hasan has entered the US twice in the last 9 months (once when he arrived on his K1 visa and again when he traveled to Turkey on Advance Parole). Both times he was pulled into a separate room for interrogation. Not really sure why, but he said they were mildly aggressive both times, making accusations and questioning the validity of our marriage. I did not travel to Turkey with him because it was for a family emergency (not to mention we don't have an extra $900 to spend on another plane ticket) and the officer thought that was reason for concern. He had all the proper documentation he needed and was clear in the system.
UPDATE 6/21/16: He has traveled to Turkey twice since that time and both times he had no issues reentering; no separate interrogation required. Guess it gets better with time (and a green card). |

When I got to the airport in Chicago, and went through immigration and they checked all the documents from the Embassy in Stockholm, it turned out that the Embassy hadn't enclosed the medical examination documents, so the immigration officer wouldn't let me in. I was put in holding for around 2 hours, until they figured out what to do. Finally they came back and said it was all settled, and I was free to go. I don't know what went on, but I am just happy they let me in. But the officers there were nice to me. |
