POE EXPERIENCE (Chicago, Illinois)
So today is February 3, 2016, the most awaited day in my life. Yes! I'll being my husband again after 29 months of not seeing each other. What's exciting is that, our 6-year 8,000 miles affair will now end. This is our journey to forever.
Manila Airport:
My flight is scheduled at 12:30pm from Manila to Korea via Asiana Airline, not because of too much excitement but because I wanted to avoid hassles, I went to NAIA Terminal 1-Manila at 8:00am. Directly, proceeds to the Asiana Airline flight 702 line for check in. Checked in one (1) 20x20 balikbayan box containing my "pasalubongs" from the Philippines and one (1) huge luggage. I paid the travel tax amounting to Php1620 then went inside the immigration. The officer then asked me my visa packet, handed it to him and he just checked the immigrant summary data and Hola! Passport stamped! After that, I went directly to Gate 40 and waited for my flight.
Korea Airport:
After 4-hours flight, reached Korea at 5:25pm. Got of the plane and proceeds to the scanner for transfer. Expect a long line so better move faster to reach the scanning area. The airport staff scanned my passport and checked my visa. All my hand carry baggage passed by through the scanner. The lady airport staff ask me if she can open and checked my shoulder bag, and I said okay. I don't know what she was looking, she opened my wallet and checked my coins, open each pockets inside the bag. And Hola! I'm done and ready to go. Got out of the scanning area and proceeds to Gate 35, where my next flight is. My departure from Korea to Chicago is at 8:20pm.
Chicago Airport:
Touchdown Chicago in 13 hours. Followed the crowd 'til we reached the immigration. I lined up in the VISA/FIRSTIME IMMIGRANTS Counter. When its my turn, I handed the immigration officer my visa packet, passport and the custom declaration form (distributed during the flight, fill it out and declare all the good you are taking in the United States) Then I was told to go get my baggages. Claimed my baggages and lined up in the custom counter (it was a long line, you will be checked with the good you brought) I declared everything and checked the Meat Products box and Holah! I was ask what is this meat I am bringing in. It was a Filipino dish called "binagoongan" - cooked pork slices with shrimp pasta and lots and lots of chili peppers. They allowed it to get in and send me of to counter 2. There, I handed again my visa packet and my passport. They just have to encode everything and check out if the information in my immigrant data summary is correct or are there anything I would like to be corrected like spellings/ numbers/ dates. Afterward, I proceed to counter 4 for baggage scanning and done at 7:30pm, ready to go in. Welcome to the United States of America to me.
