Officer at Pacific Highway was kind of rude, looked like he didn't like his job but handled us in roughly 20 minutes and we were on our way. :) |

POE was the Pembina-Emerson border. Arrived around lunch time. CBP officer took our passports, at which time I stated that I was seeking entry as a K-1 visa holder. The officer advised as to park in the designated lot and to enter the building where our documents would be waiting. By the time we had parked and walked in, the same officer was already there. He advised us from behind the computer to have a seat. There did not seem to be any rhyme or reason to the order that people were assisted by the officers. When we entered, we were the only ones there. Before long, every seat in the seating area was occupied. All in all, the process took over an hour and a half and I had to pay $6.00 USD for the i-94. At no point were we asked to declare any alcohol, tobacco, or money exceeding $10,000. The officer didn't even look at the items that I brought with me, even though we noticed him checking out the other vehicles in front of us.
What really struck me was that the officer advised me that my K visa is essentially void now and that the i-94 is the new important document (it is literally a piece of white paper stapled into my passport). He then asked if I was aware that the K visa was acceptable for one entry only, which I said yes (one would assume that my entry that date was the one entry allowed for the K visa). He then quoted a large binder saying that I was allowed to come and go between Canada and the US as much as I wanted, up until our wedding date. He said once we were married, that would be my one entry. This has confused me beyond belief as I interpreted it as you get one entry into the US with the K visa and you must get married within the immediate 90 days following that entry. |

As soon as I pulled up to the border guard, I told him I was using my k1 Visa and that my fiance was behind me. He told me to put my hazzard lights on and go to the building on the right. The parking lot is behind a cement wall and there's 2 guards at the entrance. They told me to park and go in through the door. When you get inside the building, there's a huge waiting room. I waited there for about 20 minutes before I was called to a window. The gentlemen I had was very nice. I handed him the package. He went over everything, asked a few questions and stapled the i94 in my passport. Which cost 6 dollars. After about a 5-10 minute conversation with him, I was free to go. They never searched our cars or anything. I had my packing list prepared though. Never asked my fiance anything either. Aside from the wait it was easy. |
